This is such a serious day so please forgive this serious post:

It's a day when I will remember WW1 when soldiers were forced
to go over the top of the trenches & charge against 1000's
of machine guns.
Even when such charges failed with tens of  1000's killed -
the charges were repeated in following days with more "canon fodder".
I consider that the generals & the Govt's who sent men -
often against their will - into such acts of suicide should have
been put on trial & hanged.

Instead we fool ourselves that the all the men were brave.
If they didn't go over the top they were shot by their own officers
who remained in the trenches.

It's a day to remember those poor blokes who were forced
to give their lives for no military gain.
It's also a time remember those who were brave.
It's a time to remember the horrors of war &
the peace we have enjoyed in comparison.

Good post, Bat. That's made my day.

ANZAC day is the one thing the perverts cannot take from us - so much of our identity and who we are is wrapped up in the ANZAC day memorial when we as a country remember our ancestors and what they done for us and sacrificed to make us their descendants free....Lest we forget... Anzacs were the men of WWI. Yanks have taken over most of Oz but does Anzac Day have to comply with US support of Israel's invasion into legal Palestine territory? Yanks weren't in the war when Anzac Cove 1915 happened.

Are you confusing the ANZAC's with the ANZUS treaty?

That puts it in some perspective bobby.

War is decided by old men in boardrooms and young men are sent to die. We should stop all invasions now.
The men who signed up for WWI and II did it for adventure, it was a way out of the shearing sheds. Read their stories, that's what they said.

i do not celebrate ritual sacrifice and murder

by the english.

many 1000s of anzacs were ordered to charge and

were slaughtered in rank and file

by the british monarchy yes

murder of the convict stock,i will not pretend to like

the freemasonic ritual,

to celebrate murder and ritual blood sacrifice

the monarchy gets a real belly laugh at misguided

ceremonies

freewill

ANZAC Day is also a time to remember the grace with which the great Ataturk extended the hand of reconciliation to the ANZACs and to acknowledge the hospitality the Turks still extend to us today at ANZAC Cove.

It is surely unparalleled in the history of modern warfare where a victorious former enemy demonstrates as much friendship and respect as the Turkish state offers to Australians on this, our most sacred day.

Those heroes that shed their blood
and lost their lives...
you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country.
Therefore rest in peace.
There is no difference between the Johnnies
and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side
here in this country of ours...
You the mothers
who sent their sons from far away countries
wipe away your tears.
Your sons are now lying in our bosom
and are in peace.
After having lost their lives on this land they have
become our sons as well.

Anzac Day is it?

I hope people in Australia take some time to remember those people who sacrificed so much for your nation.
