Budget 2012
Apr 16th, 2012 at 8:50am

Senator Milne has challenged the need to return the budget to surplus in 2012-13, called for an end to tax breaks for the "fossil fuel corporations", demanded tax relief for small business and argued that public servants should not be sacked to deliver budget savings (The Australian) (The Age) (The Daily Telegraph). The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is the latest to weigh job cuts (The Australian).

Is returning the budget to surplus in the shortest time possible, in return for driving the economy to the wall, the best Labor can do ... and only doing in reaction to Abbott.

Is it time Labor grew a backbone and stood up for the economy?

I am sure labor would love to think that people actually take note of what the nutjobs in the greens think, but sadly for labor, only a handful of other nutjobs do and the budget had better be in surplus or the lagacy of labor continues.

Labor know it, they have to have a surplus before the next election. No doubt about it.

Even IF there was nothing else, this insane obsession with a surplus will kill them.

It's nothing but pathetic pandering to the far-right nutbars in the Coalition and their supporters.

They are wasting time and effort chasing an extremist conservative vote they'll NEVER get, and
alienating their traditional support-base in the process.

It's almost as if they WANTED to lose.....

If labor returns to surplus, Abbott will claim they are putting the economy at risk ... if they don't he will call it another lie, or broken promise ... it won't matter what they do , the simpletons will whinge

Beautiful aint it lol. Not exactly something that liberals need to win. It is already a given that labor are going to lose, but for the sake of labor legacy, it has to be done.

That is part of the reason Labor is on the nose, they are reactionary rather than leaders.

Australians desire strong leadership.

Labor now has two parties with dogmatic values, either side of it. Both Milne and Abbott, love or hate, will run rings around Gillard.

Time for a reassessment if she is really the best person to react for Labor. Time for Labor to find a Leader the nation can respect.

A Labor Leader that is able to envision and then lead the country to that vison.

Carr has more leadership in his little finger, compared to Gillard.

Yes, Abbott has played Labor as a fool and Labor has jumped to the provocation.

And so Australia is the poorer.

And Gillard, even with the mess she has created, was the best option at the time.

Voters will realise that if they react to Labor by rewarding Abbott and Joyce.

Then a great disaster will unfold.

artificially creating a budget surplus while just about to require an increase in the debt ceiling from its current $250B is about as pointless as it gets. Who among us could not arrange a personal 'budget surplus' if we just borrowed more every month?

Let's go further. No more hospital treatment for smokers. No more ambulances sent to drug freaks who overdose in some back lane at the Cross. That's just a start.
