They went to the last election with a promise of no change to the marriage act. Also, homosexual marriage is unnatural, and would dent the holy sanctity of the holy and sacramental union between man, woman and God. Isn’t marriage itself unnatural? Also, god does not exist. Marriage does go against nature, but its not for you to say God doesnt exist. You cant expect people to forget thousands of years of religion, a religion spread all over the world in many variants. If you want tolerance, you should practice it as well. Thousands of years of religion, and not one fact. That may well be the case, but it is still a very active belief system the world over, an entreched one within the culture of society. Its hardly a good counter argument to those who oppose gay marriage, when marriage itself is a concept of society as well. Marriage is indeed a "social construct" or "unnatural" but it was instituted as protection for women and children. The natural state of affairs is that a small group of alpha males would sire children far and wide, leaving the women to fend for them, and the children without a strong male role model. By binding a man to a woman via marriage, it guaranteed support and family bonds. I don't see the same need for homosexual unions - each man can fend for themselves just as well, and children are a non-issue since they cannot be produced within that union. So, what's the point of it all? The point is that it is an institution of creation of life between a man and a woman, not a stalk and a spare babies factory or spare sperm factory.
