Australia to nationalise its own land
Feb 2nd, 2012 at 2:32pm

Australia should act before it is too late and legislate to make it unlawful for any other Country or Company to own Australian land outright.

The best the world should be offered is a lease, with strict conditions.

How dare they sell our country off! Do you think for a second it would happen in China?

All land ownership is granted by the Govt anyway.

I would be opposed to this.  It would stiffle investment, enterprise and employment. Sad

You talk about making it unlawful for any other country or company to own Australian land outright.  Do you also have an objection to individuals or partnerships consisting of individuals, where those persons are foreign nationals, owning Australian land outright?  And what about foreign nationals who live permanently in Australia?  Sounds an unduly Draconian measure to me.

Has any other country with a democratically elected government enacted such legislation?

What an idioic idea.

What do you think this will achieve, except for turning Australia into another third world backwater.

The way Labor is mis-managing this Country I hold the greatest fears. We had a national surplus and money in the bank when Labor took over,  now we borrow hundreds of millions (not a misquote) from China each and every day.

The only damned thing this Government does well is spend bucket loads of money mainly on crap. I pity the Liberals because it will take a decade for them to pay it back once these imbeciles get turfed out at the next election. (Just the same as the Liberals inherited huge debt from Labor last time they were in power).

I well remember the outrage when Joh sold QLD to the Japanese, all they did was buy it, develop it then went broke and sold it back cheap. The land is ours they can buy it but they can not pack it up and take it away.

This reminds me of people complaining about foreign ownership of farms - they were worried what might happen to our food supply if a war started, like we would be contractually bound to grow food for our enemies  Cheesy

Let them lease it, but not own it.

Seems to work well in Switzerland, and has for years.

You are right about the Japanese, they were screwed, but will it happen again.
Read recently that the foreigners will buy real estate and keep it vacant for long periods, while many Australian families have nowhere to live.
It is a very complicated issue.

This sounds more like Nationalism than Socialism???

Nationalism: loyalty and devotion to a nation; especially : a sense of national consciousness exalting one nation above all others and placing primary emphasis on promotion of its culture and interests as opposed to those of other nations or supranational groups

Put it this way. When land changes hands, it is only because both the buyer and seller think it is a good idea.

A clarification or two. Firstly I am the antithesis of Communism. I am to the far right of Genghis Khan.

Some of you have shot from the hip. I did not say that Australian citizens could not own their land, to the contrary I am saying the exact opposite.

What I am saying is that we don't want to end up like poor bloody Fiji where it took a coup to get Fiji back for the Fijians.

What I said was, FOREIGN INTERESTS should be given leases. Keep Australia for Australia. Too many people have their heads buried right up to their bums in the sand in this country and future generations will pay a terrible price for their utter neglect of responsibility.

What I see is a great Nation going down the freaking tubes under the leadership of a true Communist JULIA GILLARD (check her background, formner secretary of the Communist Party, not a typist as she claims and still member of the Fabian Society). Frankly she  couldn't oranise high tea let alone steer this country to safe waters.

If it wasn't for the mining boom we'd be up the creek and you all know what  creek that one is..rhymes with 'ditters'.
