AN OCCUPY Brisbane protester has been threatened with contempt of court after he repeatedly grabbed at his genitals during his Brisbane court appearance.

Micah Joseph Thomas Grant, 19, was in the dock of the Brisbane Magistrates Court charged with assault and obstructing a police officer as part of the protesters' eviction from Queens Park earlier today.

Prosecutors claim Grant threw a punch at the officer which he deflected, before the teen resisted arrest.

Defence lawyer Laura Rouse applied for bail for her client, who repeatedly scratched at the front of his shorts.

"Could you stop playing with your genitals while you're talking to the duty lawyer?" magistrate Sheryl Cornack asked.

When the teenager continued scratching his groin, Ms Cornack threatened to charge him with contempt if he touched his genitals one more time.

"Behave yourself like a civilised human being in this courtroom," she said.

Sergeant Paul Hodge said Grant was already on suspended jail sentences, before the case was adjourned so the 19-year-old could see a mental health nurse.

Two fellow members of the Occupy Brisbane movement were in court to support Grant, offering up to $2000 to secure his release on bail.

One of the women also said she may be prepared to provide a bail address for Grant once she'd spoken to her housemates.

Ms Cornack then read a mental health assessment and told Grant that may explain why he had touched his genitals at his earlier appearance.

She told him he would be bailed and taken to hospital for assessment.

She said he would have to comply with every direction of the mental health service and report to police once a week until his next appearance in three weeks.

Outside court, Grant's friend Corey Green said she was there when her friend was arrested.

"Just the numbers (of police) were insane. It was just this endless line of police and then they did this kettling thing where they fence you in, which always really scares me," she said.

Ms Green said she had only known Grant for the duration of the sit-in.

"Personally I think the best thing that has come out of the occupation is that a lot of homeless people have had somewhere to stay, and also somewhere where they're taking care of themselves," she said.

When I get the chance, I'm going down to Flagstaff gardens to join the numbers and to have a few friendly chats. I wonder if I might also pull a root? Surely there's lots of easy girls who would like a bit of time out for a night or two?

But no, my intentions are very pure. First and foremost is to have a bit of fun, then I'll think of the consequences.
...does that sound like a familiar premise to the inert, ridiculous, spent, capitalism model that we are now experiencing at all?

Many young people have mental health issues that quite often go untreated for years. Somehow these people slip through the system and will become major problems to society in later years.

What does democracy look like?

Democracy doesn't look like this!

I have read that it could be as much as $16 billion.

Gillard Offers Borrowed Money To Bail Out Europe

Let us be perfectly clear, dear reader.

Europe is stuffed. Totally and utterly stuffed.

As is the USA. The UK. Indeed, as is the entire Western world’s financial system.

You simply can not fix a debt problem, by borrowing more money.

History bares witness time and time again, that the so-called “rescue” packages that globalist entities like the IMF offer to over-indebted nations, are no rescue at all.
By taking Australia ever deeper into record debt, this government is fast-tracking our nation into the arms of the IMF, World Bank, and other assorted power-crazed “We want to rule the world” lunatics.

reader comments:

Your end paragraph reveals all and Australians should wake up and wake up quickly. Our soverieignty is being taken from us by this government.
“By taking Australia even deeper into record debt, this government is fast-tracking our nation into the arms of the evil IMF, World Bank- ex Nazi Bank BIS, (owned by WEALTHY banksters wanting a mononation) and other assorted power (and wealth) crazed lunatics who want to rule the world”. The wealthy will be wealthier and the poor poorer. STOP NOW AUSTRALIANS and take heed before it is too late.

Occupy movement makes sense to Ron Paul

While Republican attitudes towards Occupy Wall Street protesters have been largely negative, GOP hopeful Ron Paul aligned himself with those participating in the movement during last night’s televised presidential debate.

In support of the agenda of the thousands of Americans participating in the Occupy movement, Texas Congressman Ron Paul said Wednesday night, “if you’re going after crony capitalism, I’m all for it.”

According to Paul, crony capitalists are those “that benefit from contract from government, benefit from the Federal Reserve, benefit from all the bailouts. They don’t deserve compassion. They deserve taxation or they deserve to have all their benefits removed.”

“But crony capitalism isn’t when someone makes money and they produce a product,” added the candidate. “That is very important. We need to distinguish the two. And unfortunately I think some people mix that.”

‘Occupy’ movement in bid to save German democracy

The pro-equality Occupy movement is rapidly gathering pace in Germany, with fresh protests starting in the capital Berlin and the country's financial heartland of Frankfurt.

Thousands are set to join the demonstrations on Saturday, seeking to draw attention to rampant corporate greed and the increasing poverty of the masses. The German Occupy movement has also made significant steps in legitimizing itself, having earned the support of two major political factions.

According to police, more than 10,000 people took to the streets of two major German cities, protesting against the banks' dominance.

In Berlin, demonstrators have formed a human chain surrounding parts of the government district to call for an end to excesses of financial speculation and urge the authorities to dismantle big banks, AP reports.

Frankfurt police said some 9,000 people were peacefully protesting in the city center near the European Central Bank's office block.

“We want more democracy and more transparency, and that the big banks and other big companies [stop] abusing the power of their money,” one of the “Occupy Frankfurt” campaigners, Thomas Leuten, told RT. “Only a mass of people will change this.”

RT spoke to one of the organizers of the event and a spokesperson for the pro-equality movement “Attac Germany”, Max Bank. He believes that if democracy is to survive in Germany, now is the time to make a stand.

“We have a worldwide problem in the financial sector, which is absolutely deregulated, and we need further regulation in order to make the sector compatible with democratic societies,”
he told RT. “Otherwise, we will always see such measures as the enlargement of the EFSF that we saw a couple of weeks ago, [when] the German parliament pushed through within days.”

Max Bank referred to the events of 2008 and 2009, when many banks were bailed out without any conditions at the time of the global financial crunch.

“We need clear conditions for those banks [which] were bailed out,” he said. “That hasn’t happened in Germany, and that’s what we criticize, in order to make a clear sign that democratic societies can no longer tolerate … banks that can suppress our societies.”

Jutta Sundermann of the pro-equality 'Attac Germany' group, says Berlin is partly responsible for Europe's economic woes.

“Germany is one of the countries that caused quite a lot of trouble we have in Europe now, because of the way international competition is organized,” she told RT. “Germany is very often on the winning side, but that means that we also export poverty and [unemployment].”

Sundermann echoed Max Bank by referring to the recent crisis of 2008. Back then, taxpayers were forced to save banks, and eventually billions were thrown to bail them out. By doing this, the fundamental principles of democracy were jeopardized, she says.

“People here on the streets, they agree… that it is needed to go out because everybody learns that democracy is in danger,” she said.

As WWIII looms ever closer, the global Occupy movement will gain strength.

WE ARE THE 99%

The year of dissent: Keeping America’s 1% Occupied.

When the Occupy Wall Street movement set up camp in New York’s financial district in September 2011, few people paid much attention to the self-proclaimed 99 per cent. But the tents in Zuccotti Park were like a spark to America’s social kindling.

Soon, the indignant voice of the people spread across the country. People supported a movement aimed at awakening all to the negative effects of the growing, and strangely seldom-questioned, income and wealth disparities in the country.

Staggering national debt, never-ending job cuts and foreclosures, all amid reports of cushy bonuses for Fortune 500 CEOs, drove the Occupy movement beyond America’s borders. Just a few months after the first tents were pitched in NYC, the movement and its ideology were truly global.

It followed on the footsteps of global unrest. The protesters themselves came up with the slogan "Arab Spring, European Summer, American Fall."

But even though it was non-violent, unlike rallies in the Middle East and Africa, these media-savvy youths couldn’t have picked a better time. Recent studies show that the gap between the rich and the poor is the biggest in 30 years. In addition, the US is gearing up for presidential elections in 2012.

RT’s Marina Portnaya, who covered the protests in New York, says this may be why American mainstream media avoided the Occupy movement for as long as possible.

“They were marginalized in the very beginning. But there was a moment when the mainstream media couldn’t ignore the movement, because it became the biggest story in the United States. There were clearly biases and different points of view given from mainstream media outlets here in the United States, because they are owned by corporations and these Americans are talking about corporate influence on US politics,” Portnaya told RT.

And even though the movement has lost some of its momentum after camps were raided by police nationwide, this is most definitely not the last time the Occupiers will be heard from. Politicians and mainstream media outlets may be downplaying their impact on American society, but their influence is evident to most, including historians and collectors.

Internationally known institutions such as the Smithsonian and the New York Historical Society have been busy collecting Occupy artefacts. Having not yet become history, the movement is already seen as worthy of historical preservation and 2011 will always be associated with the rise of the 99 per cent.

Occupy Portland protesters maced by police (VIDEO)

Portland police arrested and pepper-sprayed protesters who were marching against austerity measures on Saturday. The police, dressed in riot gear with several officers on horseback, tackled and sprayed several demonstrators who were carrying signs.

Around 300 protesters of the Portland Action Lab, an offshoot of the city’s Occupy movement, had gathered in the Lloyd District to march on issues ranging from healthcare reform to military spending to public education. The protesters had not acquired a permit to march and some did not know the route, which led to a confrontation with police.
While police insist they only used pepper spray after being confronted by people with wooden shields, protesters who witnessed the incident say it happened suddenly after several high school students tried to push through and continue the march.

“It was really crazy how the police started spraying everybody,” 31-year-old Meredith Reese of the Portland Action Lab told The Oregonian, describing how at least five people dropped to the ground after being targeted.

“I think the police targeted people based on what they were wearing and their signs,” she added. One of the victims was Cameron Whitten, an Occupy Portland protester who has long advocated for better homeless policies.

Most of the protesters had marched peacefully and the event was meant to be family-friendly, Reese said. “Enough is enough,” was the slogan that the crowd chose to chant throughout the day. With flags, signs and whistles, they represented “the 99 percent” and increased social services.

“It’s another effort to get that energy organized,” 29-year-old Nicholas Caleb said of the rally. “People oppose the status quo. Occupy was one of those and there will be many more.”

Now angered by the violent police reaction to their march, the Portland Action Lab will meet again on Wednesday to discuss ways to mitigate police officers’ use of force.

“We keep running into this realization that the police are going to use force on us whenever we’re in the streets,” Caleb said.

“They’re using riot police when there isn’t a riot going on. People get bum rushed by cops in paramilitary fashion and hog tied,” he added.

Those occupy clowns still at it?  Ahh good on the front bottoms.  I wonder how much the focus of their anger, and the favoured remedy has changed during the year.

Peaceful passive non violent resistance is the greatest form of protest...the world peace and justice movement must call on the citizens of all violent capitalist countries like the USA, Australia and the UK to renounce violence and surrender to world peace and non violence...that is the way forward...violence begets violence... It's terrible that people should call for better homeless policies, how dare they.

I suppose it changes with the circumstances. If homelessness gets worse, they'd focus more on that. There's a zillion issues that's causing America to be dysfunctional. The main issue is the ever growing gap between rich and poor, it's what causes revolutions.

You just shut up and do what you're told Wesley, it's not for you to make a scene, there's a good boy, it's for your own good.....feel comforted?

Oh pansi.  So filled with hatred, you just can't help yourself.

See, I know something is wrong, just like these dopes.  The difference is what we think we should do about it.  I'm afraid the occupy-friendly solution of "more equality' is a primary driver of the problems they claim to rail against.  So, while I can commend for sticking to their guns, I cannot commend them for their idiocy.

When government and corporate interests collude to bugger the people, what kind of idiot thinks the way to solve the problem is to transfer even more power to one of the parties doing the fking?

An occupy kind of idiot, that's who.
