Before too long, the All Ords will be lower than the 3100 level of March 2009. The underlying situation is much worse than it was then.

No. My guess will be that the All Ords will be around 4050 by COB today.

ok

10.04am The ASX200 down one per cent in early trade, but is expected to drop further. The Nikkei is down 1.4% at the open of the Japanese market.

Updates to follow.

9.38am "The United States can pay any debt it has because we can always print money to do that. So there is zero probability of default," says Former US Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan.

"What I think the S&P thing did was to hit a nerve that there's something basically bad going on, and it's hit the self-esteem of the United States, the psyche" said Mr Greenspan on NBC's Meet the Press.

CNBC reports Mr Greenspan said the nervousness over the "current sense of crisis" is about the eurozone, not the US.

Swanny's beating his chest. We seem to be fairing pretty well at the moment.

11.45am "There is not a G20 finance minister who wouldn't swap places with me in the environment we are in at the moment," Treasurer Wayne Swan told ABC radio today.

The following chart & ticker on US DOW Futures seems to a little "more real time" than others.

It is worth looking at correlations in the movements between the OZ markets & the US DOW Futures, because we are generally folllowers.

Nice pick Pansi!

I had seen that chart on the ASX site, but I hadn't realised that it was a "real time" tracker.

We should have taken bets (non pecuniary of course) on the All Ords at CoB. Wink  I'd say that tomorrow might be more indicative.
