Gillard - One Vote Away From Flood Levy Win.
Feb 17th, 2011 at 5:34pm

JULIA Gillard is now on the verge of a victory in the flood levy debate with the Greens today announcing support.   Smiley

The price was a pledge to restore and redesign a $100 million, large-scale solar panel program which had been dumped to help pay for flood recovery.

And a housing rental affordability scheme for low-income earners will be renewed for the coming decade, rather than dropped completely.

The deal means the Prime Minister would have three votes from the cross-benches - the Greens Adam Bandt, West Australian National Tony Crook, and Queensland independent Bob Katter.   Smiley

She now needs one of the other independents - Tony Windsor, Rob Oakeshott and Andrew Wilkie - to get the levy through the House of Representatives.

Greens leader Bob Brown today said: "We'll be supporting the package in the House of Representatives and the Senate.   Smiley

"This is the Greens responsibly ensuring that the victims of the flood catastrophe across this country get assistance and get it quickly."
