no no no. There's jobs for everybody, millions of jobs. There's thousands of jobs in my regional town, people are knocking on doors asking for workers, those 5,000 unemployed are just lazy, they don't want work.

What regional town is that pansi ?

No fred do not come here looking for a job, there are NONE. I was only reiterating what the government are saying. If the truth be known, there are actually ZERO jobs available, but don't tell Julia.

I dont need a job pansi I am employed. But i just wonder what town  Wink

Pick one. They're all the same, high unemployment and no vacancies.

yeh that's right. We are told that we have low unemployment but where are all of the "job vacancy" signs outside factories and businesses ??

Maybe the ABS should be counting "job vacancy" signs instead of the bogus ads from job sharks in the news paper job section Wink

80 workers at Ballarat Telstra call centre sacked

27 Jan, 2011 01:09 PM

Almost 80 staff at Telstra's Ballarat call centre have been sacked this afternoon.
The workers were employed by Dorothy Farmer Personnel, contracted to undertake Telstra work.

Staff members have told The Courier that the jobs have gone to overseas offices.

A Telstra spokesperson said the staff had been given one month's notice.

The spokesperson also said Telstra had a mix of domestic and foreign partners who provided call centre services and it was not correct to say that the jobs were headed overseas.

She said the job cuts were due to fluctuating workloads.

Opposition treasury spokesman Tim Holding, in a statement to The Courier, said:

"While these are ultimately decisions for the company concerned, the Coalition Government must reassure the Ballarat community that it has done everything possible to try and prevent these job losses.

"The Government has to reassure families in country Victoria that it has a plan to protect and promote regional jobs."

Telstra worker vows to fight for his job

28 Jan, 2011 12:19 AM

ADAM Membrey won't be leaving his job at the Telstra call centre in Gillies Street without a fight.

Yesterday the plucky 31-year-old from Ararat said his performance had been strong in the position he'd held since September.

"Their statement was that it (the lay-offs) would be based on performance so I'll be questioning it," he said yesterday.

"I'll be asking for a formal meeting. I won't go out without kicking up a stink."

Mr Membrey was the only staff member out of dozens who both lost and kept their jobs to respond to calls to speak with The Courier.

Telstra said 80 "temporary" positions would be lost, but declined jobs would be relocated overseas.

Mr Membrey said he was told his job was going offshore.

"They didn't say where ... probably Manila."
