THE Queensland city of Toowoomba has been devastated by a deadly wall of water in scenes reminiscent of a tsunami.

10 Jan 2011 - Floods
An ugly new chapter is unfolding in the state's unprecedented flood crisis, with parts of Toowoomba devastated and homes swept away in the Lockyer Valley at the foot of the Toowoomba range.

Two people - including a woman pedestrian caught up in the flash flooding - have been killed but the language being used by emergency services suggests they won't be the last.

An unknown number of others are missing after the flood hit about midday (AEST), washing away cars, some with drivers still trapped inside

it was pretty horrific watching that on the news.nothing can possibly stop this and now its mudslides to deal with. goes to show how unprepared we are, I havent seen anything on the animals..or disease which I guess we can also look forward too.

when I saw pansi's "joke".. I was reminded of a huge storm that swept Sydney about 10 yrs ago or more.. took roofs off many houses SES spent weeks putting tarps over them..

the Mayors roof was also blown off.. but that was repaired within days...

after people in the same street waited a few weeks for repairs complained.. "how come".. it was claimed the mayor was so quick off the mark to report it he was one of the first to be dealt with!!! of course he was..

many many months later when I visited my daughter in Sydney.we went by train into the city.. and so many houses still had tarps on them which because of inclement weather had had to be replaced a few times.

that's right cods, same as one of the councillors lived a bit out of town, his street was the only one with curb and guttering ha ha

Poor Toowoomba, this is crazy weather, my town went under again yesterday, but the houses are only waterlogged shells now so it didn't really matter, the damage was already done.

I suppose it depends on how big an  rsehole you are considering people (including children) have lost their lives.

Watching the news footage this morning, the flash flood in Toowoomba was absolutely horrifying.  To see vans and cars etc just swept away like matchboxes with such ferocity is almost more than one could imagine.

I can't imagine that anyone with any humanity or sensitivity would make jokes about any aspect these floods.   The people involved are going through absolute torment.

pansi maybe you should have mentioned you are one of those living through it..it would have made him feel a whole lot better I am sure..lol..

I have never lived through something like this so can only imagine the pain of seeing everything ruined the same with bushfire we can only stand and watch so helpless..to my mind its getting worse.. or isnt that the case?.. it just looks so bad on the news..

pansi talking of antidepressants....there will be a lot of them needed after this resides, when they sum up their losses it will really sink in. I hope you and yours havent lost anything and not likely too..that wont make you feel better but it will keep the strength going at least I hope it will.

Typical fwit bogan attitude to get off on someone else`s missfortune. Particularly if it`s someone they see as comitting the crime of having a go in life.

I think you'll find the remark was made in reference to a previous flood, now subsided, prior to what happened in Toowoomba.

As climatoligists have been saying for a long time, the cost of doing nothing to combat climate change is far higher than the costs of making the changes we need to make ....now.
These catastrophic events will become more frequent and much worse if we dont adopt the Greens climate change policies now.
The people and regions that are the first to be effected are the very same ones who deny climate change and say the social and economic costs to combat this mythical beast is far to great surely must change their attitudes and come on board with the worlds top scientists, business leaders and economists.
I'm betting nothing will be learnt from this disaster and these communities will build unsuitable housing in unsuitable areas only to be swept away, costing more lives when the next and far more devastating floods occur over and over again in the coming decades.
This has been a terrible tragedy but if nothing is done to change where and how we build communities espesially with the climate change demon bearing down upon us  we will have far worse in the near future.
We have been constantly warned of these worstening events by the worlds scientists over the last few decades so why are we surprised now it is happening?

Yes, he should have realised that when he looked at the dates on the posts, when he wakes up out of his drunken stupor he'll get it.

Aussiefree2ride, you would be the very last person on here to take the high moral ground with some of the slime that comes out of your mouth.

We can laugh in the face of tragedy, and we should, it's what keeps us going.
