I'm looking forward to Christmas
It's sentimental, I know, but I just really like it
I am hardly religious
I'd rather break bread with Dawkins than Desmond Tutu, to be honest

And yes, I have all of the usual objections to consumerism
The commercialisation of an ancient religion
And the westernisation of a dead Palestinian
Press-ganged into selling Playstations and beer
But I still really like it

I really like Christmas
Though I'm not expecting a visit from Jesus

I'll be seeing my dad
My brother and sisters, my gran and my mum
They'll be drinking white wine in the sun

I don't go for ancient wisdom
I don't believe just 'cos ideas are tenacious it means they are worthy
I get freaked out by churches
Some of the hymns that they sing have nice chords but the lyrics are dodgy

And yes I have all of the usual objections to the miseducation
Of children forced into a cult institution and taught to externalise blame
And to feel ashamed and to judge things as plain right and wrong
But I quite like the songs

I'm not expecting great presents
The old combination of socks, jocks and chocolate is just fine by me

Hope you all had a great Christmas day with family and friends, Im still trying to digest about a tonne of king prawns and Haighs chocolate.
Loading up the Hilux for a few weeks in central oz after a quiet day today taking in the cricket and snoozing on the lounge.
If your heading out for a break take it easy on the roads and if your in the Alice for New Yrs Eve look out for us at the Casino resturant and bar (getting to old for Bo's)

I hope everyone had a lovely day yesterday and gave a thought to the Reason for the Season. I hope also that you all have a fabulous 2011.

Wow adelcrow, The Alice in January ! Did that once and it was

HOT

, but the dry heat did wonders for a bad case of chronic tenosynovitus, to the point where I was able to cancel surgery booked for the following February. Anyway, have a wonderful time, it's great country, and stay safe.

Yep, sure is hot up there this time of yr but it is my fave time to be up there. The evenings in central oz this time of year make it the best time to visit as long as you stay close to a cold beer or 3 (gotta be coopers pale ale)

We will be back mid Jan so we will miss the worst of the heat in late Jan and Feb, so far its been pretty mild compared to the last few yrs and like you said, the dry heat fixes most things that ail ya
