Ho Ho Ho $5 a can thanks! And Merry Christmas
Dec 17th, 2010 at 6:30am

Marvelous Christmas present from the Australian government to our troops over in Afghanistan to make them pay $5 for a can of beer sold on Christmas Day, $120 a slab.
Gone is the notion of 2 cans per day per soldier on Christmas Day.

But the good news is that the defence department does provide free board and that includes free meals

Fortunately the National Officer for VB is organising to send some pallets of free beer over to our Troops.
Just need to approval from the RSL and the Defence Department.

Then maybe QANTAS will avail themselves to ship the amber treasure free of charge.

I love dthe comment from the Defence department:
"Defence says it already does a lot for its soldiers.

It pointed out it provided accommodation, food and welfare services to its deployed troops "at no cost"."

Did they expect the troops to go home each night at 5pm and come back the next day at 9am?

The troops are only laying their lives on the line every minute of every day they are serving in Afghanistan at the behest of those  poor politicians  whose accommodation is subsidised, whose transport is free, and who have subsidised meals not to mention the members bar. -  Yet these same politicians dare to expect the troops to have to pay for a few drinks on Christmas day.  They won't be home with their families unlike the fat cats who sent them there and expect them to pay for their beer.

Has this only happened this year, with the government insisting of troops buying their own Christmas cheers?
As I hadn't heard of it happeneing before.
Maybe it's Wendy's way of balancing his budget!!!

Thank goodness some commonsense has prevailed.
And isn't it marvelous that VB are trying to send 800 slabs (10 pallets) of VB to our Troops.
