Villawood detainees stage rooftop protest
Nov 17th, 2010 at 4:57pm

Three asylum seekers have begun a rooftop protest at the Villawood Detention Centre in Sydney's west.

There are also claims of confrontations involving police at the centre's perimeter fence and that fires have been lit.

The ABC understands the protesters on the roof are all male and have been held at the facility for about a year.

"There are fires burning in the ground of Villawood detention centre, it's outside stage three," said George Georgiadis, a protester outside the centre.

"The protesters broke through the Commonwealth barrier and risked fines to go and meet the guys on the fence.

"The detainees have been throwing chairs over the fence. There has been shouting and there's fires burning as we speak."

The Department of Immigration has not returned the ABC's calls.

Earlier today Immigration Minister Chris Bowen denied Villawood detainees were on a hunger strike following the suicide of a fellow inmate.

Iraqi man Ahmad al-Akabi, 41, was found dead in his quarters at the detention centre on Monday night.

His was the second suicide of a detainee at Villawood since September.

With a hunger strike then at least the food costs will drop!

The more that die then that will help battle the congestion from overpopulation, and saves building extra facilities too
These illegals are so considerate arent they.

Apparently they didn't get the day-spa they ordered and missed out on their mystery tour the week before.

Poor wretches!

They damage property after having arrived illegally, (many of which are criminals in their own country) .. .. then expect public sympathy and hand-outs off the Australian tax payer?

Get real.

Those who have been in there for 12 months are in there for that long for a reason.... while their wives and kids get the royal treatment living it up in luxury hotels until government housing becomes available.

I have a great idea, how about some sort of 'sponsor a refugee' program, whereby all the thoughtful Greens supporters can offer them financial support and housing  at their expense instead of ours for a change?

Lets see how thoughtful they are then.

Cool

Thousands have died just listing to Gillards voice, ... and she's only been PM for 3 months.

Gillards parents were found buried in their backyard with earmuffs mummified to their skulls.

Rest their weary souls..

Certainly make all the PC do-gooder nutters disappear real quick!

You wouldnt be advocating to the watermelons to practice what they preach and for them to put their money where their mouth is would you?

Yep we sure do have enough violent people here, and some are even those claiming regugee status!!!

And then there's the Indians who are carrying out their religious hatred against other Indians and then blaming Australia for it!!!!!

I totally agree with you on this Cods.

They are making a mockery of our system, are abusing our hospitality, and our government are serving as their enablers, placing them before existing Australians.

Disgraceful.

So who pays for the malicious damage they have caused ?

The Aussie Taxpayer of course.

Payment should be deducted from their TAXPAYER FUNDED SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS"

Or perhaps you'd just prefer to setup some gas chambers, and load them all in?

You lot are filth, seriously, I don't even know how you look at your despicable images in the mirror and feel content with yourselves as actual human beings.
