Winery crackdown over worker pay

ALMOST 100 wineries and vineyards across the state will be randomly audited as part of a crack down on producers who underpay workers.

Fair Work Ombudsman inspectors will focus on the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale regions.

Fair Work Ombudsman executive director Michael Campbell said the main objective was to alert employers to their lawful responsibilities.

"For example, it is important that employers realise they must keep accurate time and wage records and issue pay slips," he said.

The audits will start next Monday, November 15.

The campaign has been timed to avoid the industry's peak period at harvest.

More likely it is a crackdown on wineries who pay cash to backpackers, off the books.

hahahahaha, they are targeting when its not harvest.  Yeah, real crack down.

Also, government groups target people every year.

Whats funny is the ATO release their list who they will target in June for individual returns.

Its a threat.  They are hoping people take fear in it and do the right thing.

Another dud thread from another dud spammer.
