Sterilisation for child abusers?
Oct 21st, 2010 at 12:11pm

Quote:
Parents who have a history of child abuse should be forced to undergo sterilisation, says a former Victorian ombudsman.

Norman Geschke, who between 1980 and 1994 wrote several reports harsh to child protection services, says the systemic failings of state care in Victoria has forced him to speak out again.

While Victoria's Child Safety Commissioner Bernie Geary has called the concept "inhumane", another child protection agent said stiffer penalties for parents who repeatedly neglect their children must be considered.

Speaking to Melbourne's Herald-Sun newspaper Mr Geschke said that a US model used in the UK where drug addicts are paid to undergo a vasectomy or hysterectomy could be considered.

"My concern is that I think children, when they are born, should expect to get tender loving care," Mr Geschke told the newspaper.

"I just think it's wrong to treat kids badly, that is being done and no-one is really doing anything about it.

"It's (sterilisation) got to be an option that's available somewhere down the track."

Mr Geary said he was appalled that someone of Mr Geschke's background could consider such an option.

Hmmmm...nah I can't support it.

Granted, they need to be punsihed for the cirmes they have committed, and hopefully this will deter them from offending again.

But in effect, they will be punished for crimes that haven't even been committed.  I assume they would have any children taken from their care currently, and I just don't believe the government has any right to force a person to undergo invasive medical procedures EVER.  Our own bodies are the last bastion of freedom, we can't let the guv take that away too.

Why not? I'm not big on compulsory eugenics but in the case of extreme deviancy and degeneracy, I move beyond my preferred "voluntary" approach.

Well something needs to be done.......

Do we really want to put up with people having children and then not bothering to feed, clean or cloth the children....because it might interfer with the parent's 'social life'????

Does ANY child deserve that??

If a person has a history of neglecting and mis-treating pets....the courts can ban them from owning any more pets...

Is a puppy or kitten more important than a baby??

I like the idea, but a person could turn their life around yet be unable to become a parent again.

I am neither for nor against it. I'd have to hear more before deciding.

Because, I believe false complaints are quite common in family court battles.  How would ya feel having ya crackers cut off becasue your ex made up some bullshit to get custody, or increased child support?

How about a long-lasting subcutaneous slow release contraceptive injection??

I think the guy in the OP means parents who have been caught by the child welfare services, and have a documented history....

Not so much the sort of 'he said/she said' that goes on divorce cases....

I think in theory it could work.  In theory communism works.

That said, why is he adocating this, instead of adovating for the sterilisation of convicted known pedofiles?

That might be next....however, I doubt it would make any difference to a paedophile.....

Although there is the 'Sex Offender Registry' system....

The female implant is supposed to be effective for 3 years - is there a male equivalent yet!?

Either way, they are close to the surface and could be 'dug-out' by a determined individual...

Lamenting the shift in the Australian psyche, away from the egalitarian ideal of the fair-go - and the rise of short-sighted pollies, who worship the 'Growth Fairy' and seek to divide and conquer!

Possibly....
But that was only an example....and I'm sure the 'self-removal' problem is a technical detail that could be over come...

I'm not sure, but isn't there a type of tubal ligation that's reversable??

I imagine there'd be a similar version for men...

Of course I could be cynical and suggest adding oral contraceptives to Vodka Cruisers and the cheap Bourbon/cola mixers....

Apparently they have had success with it in the US with the chemical castration of offenders.  Completley and utterly destroys any sex drive they have.

So I've heard.....the problem is it's weekly injection, and can be countered by testostrone injections...
