Turnbull may become liberal leader, but Abbott won't be "sacked", he's been very successful against labor, and the majority of people have voted for the coalition under his leadership.

Of course Abbott won't be sacked. He has done an excellent job since taking over the leadership, but he may very well stand down of his own volition.

To be leader of a major party - you have to give 100% of yourself and Abbott has a lot of other interests that he might just prefer to devote his time to.

I personally would like to see him turn into a real junk yard dog to further undermine the ALP at every opportunity, then hand over of his own accord to the more friendly version in Hockey.

With such a slim majority held by the ALP, Abbott can quite easily inflict more pain than he already has on the ALP's ability to govern.  Espically since they wont be able to delieve many of the promises they made during the election.

And why not, if you will permit me; why shouldn’t I, if you will permit me; spend my first week as prime minister, should that happen, on this, on your, country - Abbott with the Garma People Aug 13

Yes I'm sure a lot of you righties would love to see that - but it may not happen. Abbott looked so tranquil last night that he may not want to return to being an outspoken bully boy.

Perhaps after all the praying he's done over the last few weeks - he found God again - he certainly looks like a man at peace with himself. That's a new look for Abbott and a good one.
