A POLICE officer is being investigated after he accidentally Tasered a 14-year-old girl.

The officer shot Jodie Gallagher in Stapleford, central England, during a stand-off with a 20-year-old man who was resisting arrest.

"After a short struggle the officer tried to restrain him by discharging his Taser," Nottinghamshire Police said in a statement.

"The Taser did not connect with the offender and struck a 14-year-old girl who was standing nearby. As soon as the officer realised he had missed the intended target, he cancelled the discharge ... The teenage girl did not require hospital treatment."

The force apologised to Jodie, who was standing in a group of around 15 people, including the suspect, at the time of the incident.

"The police pulled out his Taser gun and said if you don't stand still I'll shoot," she told the BBC. "It got me instead of the boy it was supposed to get. It was like a really big cramp, like an electric shock really and I just couldn't move."

Nottinghamshire Police referred the incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
