Like it or loath it, the baby bonus extends the shallow end of the gene pool.

no it wasn't.  the baby bonus was to increase the population.  that's it.

Tony Abbott is going to cut immigration, so he obviously believes we have too many people in this country. He'd be a hypocrite to continue to flog the baby bonus as a bribe for having more kids.

or he obviously believes we have too many immigrants coming into the country.  he'll probably increase the baby bonus.

i still don't agree with that.  the shallow end will always be more likely to have more kids... baby bonus or not.   it's just the way it is.

The shallow end is the most easily influenced by trikets and shiny bling.

actually, middle class people are more likely influenced by the baby bonus (now maternity leave) because it makes it easier for them to give up work for a period and take care of a baby.

Depends on his reason for cutting immigration.

For no other reason than racism, IMO. Looks at the fuss he's making over the asylum seekers coming over in boats. We take in less than 1% of asylum seekers, the boats are not a big deal, the Liberal party is making it a big deal to scare the bigoted fools of this country, of which we have many.

Time to end the Feral Breeding Program, focus on tax cuts that go directly to the middle class and bypass the ferals. We need less dole bludging ferals not more.  Angry

The money would be better spent on steralising the long term unemployed.  More than six weeks out of work and "off go the knackers"!

I can think of a million better uses for the money.  But then, I can alsothink of a billion better uses for the money that goes on pollies allowances.

Do you really need to begrudge a few thousand paid to young families, while hundreds of thousands go on ivory back scratchers and overseas junkets for bureaucrats?

Like it or not, improving the status and economic independence of women is guaranteed to lower overall birth rates!

Birth rates are inversely correlated to living standards - and the birth of her first child dramatically impacts upon a woman's future prospects for economic independence...

This is true the world over - with very few exceptions (i.e. religious fundamentalcases)...

No surprises therefore that: Costello's ill-conceived 'Baby Bonus' impacted most upon older women who already had one or two children...

To his credit, when he talked of 'one for the country' he correctly predicted that this would encourage already-parous women to have larger families...

Ironically, by giving women a lump sum to have a second or third child, the Libs robbed them of their longer-term chances of economic independence...

Lamenting the shift in the Australian psyche, away from the egalitarian ideal of the fair-go - and the rise of short-sighted pollies, who worship the 'Growth Fairy' and seek to divide and conquer!
