The Greens Vision for the future !
Aug 2nd, 2010 at 12:57am

Unlike the Labor and Liberal Vision Vacuum the Greens actually have a fair-dinkum vision. Just checkout this one for affordable transportation using electric car technology. You won't ever hear this discussed by the major parties because they are too far in the back pockets of the fossil fool corporations Sad

http://greens.org.au/content/greens-jump-start-drive-electric-cars

Quote:
GREENS TO JUMP START THE DRIVE TO ELECTRIC CARS

Senator Scott Ludlam and Greens candidate for Melbourne Adam Bandt today announced a new election policy on electric cars which will jump start the drive to electric vehicles, including $75 million in new funding.

The funding, which partially restores cuts made by the Federal Government to the Green Car Innovation fund, will be invested in electric vehicle development and trials, as well as recharging infrastructure.

“Electric cars are the future,” Senator Scott Ludlam said today.

“While the rest of the world is moving towards electric vehicles, Australia is being left behind. Just last month the conservative government in Germany announced a plan to put a million electric vehicles on the road.

“If we want to move to a clean energy economy we need to recognise electric mobility as central to our transport strategy.

“The government's tactic of putting money into existing fossil-fuel technologies is short sighted and will do long term damage to the car industry and jobs in Australia.

“The Federal Labor government has cut $200 million from the green car fund and is focused on existing fossil fuel technology. We want to change that.

“14% of Australia's carbon pollution comes from transport and 70% of our liquid fuel is sourced overseas.

“Moving to electric vehicles, along with investments in public transport, will mean we can cut climate pollution, increase our energy security and keep a car industry in Australia.

“A shift to electric cars powered with clean energy will also enable better management and storage of renewable energy using a smart grid,” Senator Scott Ludlam concluded.

“We want better trains, more bicycles and electric cars for Melbourne,” said Adam Bandt, Greens Candidate for Melbourne.

Adam inspects the Blade Electron electric car“Our plan for electric cars mean people in Melbourne will be able to afford a new electric vehicle recharged with clean energy from their home, workplace, shopping centre or city car park.

“This means cleaner air and much quieter streets. This means Melbourne will be a better place to live and work.

“Our plan will mean Melbourne could see as much as $20 million invested in charging points and recharge stations across the city.

“To move forward Australia needs a plan for the transition to electric cars. We want to work with Federal, State and local governments to develop a comprehensive regulatory and industry policy for electric vehicles,” Adam Bandt concluded.

The batteries only last for maximum, 15 years, where are we going to dump all the dead batteries once they expire?
Furthermore, replacing them is very costly.

Exchanging one carbon footprint with another isn't to my way of thinking, a greener alternative.

Where do the batteries in the existing 800 million cars and trucks around the world go when they are past their 4 year life cycles ??

Same with laptops, mobile phones, ipods, etc ?? Somehow that question never gets asked except for EV's Sad

If you source your energy using renewables then you automatically clean up the environment with EV's because EV's don't burn fossil fools and blow it out of the tail pipe. The solution is to clean up the grid with renewables and then you have a sustainable and cleaner form of transport. Not unlike electric trains Wink

Lets face it, like extinct animals who inhabited the earth before us, we will, and always must leave our footprint.

Try however hard you might to erase these layers, footprints, but it's not going to happen.

Water Powered Cars or Hydrogen/Oxygen Powered Cars, using 100% water as fuel perhaps?

We'd need allot of water though, and in a parched Australia...would we have enough?

It's believed by splitting water by electrolysis and creating hydrogen/oxygen gas, you can replace fuel.

But then all the green smart-car investors  wouldn't get their chop... $$$ so rather than commercially produce a car that runs on water, why not produce one that requires toxic batteries we have to keep replacing?

We are at war with our own environment, and ourselves.

Wink

It's believed Stan Meyers the inventor of the water-powered car was murdered in 1998, poisoned apparently.
A week or so later, all his equipment and the car he created was stolen, it's believed he had been receiving death threats also.

It's a funny old world we live in, when we will believe just about anything we read or see on TV, the net,  but when it comes to curious things like this, a little button in our brains switches off and tells us to refer back to the drip-feeder ...our TV's,google, MSM to let us know if it's fact or fiction.

Stan Meyer's had spoken repeatedly about how he was being threatened by oil companies, but refused to bow to their wishes of abandoning the project.

Perhaps if the Greens are serious about the future, this and have a vision also, they might want to explore this as a viable option?

.... Conspiracy theories aside, it's rather interesting isn't it.

Cool What if it were possible ..and what if the original patents (which are available online) have been replaced with bs to throw other would be inventors well and truly off track?

Go fill your car up with water tonight, try and start it in the morning and let me know how you get on.

Cool

Water powered Fuel Cell Toy Car by Daido Metal

Japan's Daido Metal, a manufacturer of bearing metals, has developed a fuel cell toy car that uses water as its source of hydrogen.

The Daido Metal toy car is using hydrogen created from the electrolysis of pure water. The car is 19cm long, 10cm wide and 8.5cm high, and weighs 350g with a full tank of water.

More details at Japan's Nikkei Net.

The Fuel Cell Toy Car will sell for 20,000 yen.

We are at last on a winner with this election. The greens having the balance of power will be almost as good as having them as the ruling government. This is by far the best outcome we could hope for. I just hope Bobby Brown has the intestinal fortitude to stick to his convictions.

Go the greens!!!!!!

Which is probably a good thing. We wouldn't want them to actually gain power.

It would be much better if the Democrats pushed their green agenda instead of allowing this mob of miscreants and hippies to gain the balance of power.

Where's Natasha Stott Despoja these days? She should have grown up enough to take the leadership again.

Batteries can be recycled. Another alternative is fuel cells.

How about a Tesla Roadster? My favourite colour too.

And where do you get the energy to convert the water into hydrogen ?? You criticized the EV for deriving its energy needs from dirty fossil fool power plants but somehow it is not a concern when creating hydrogen ??

In any event why should I still be tied to a fool bowser when I need to fill up my hydrogen car ? With an EV I can charge it at home and offset my power usage using a rooftop PV solar array. I don't need to pay BP or Shell for their ripoff hydrogen products !!

EV's are here now whereas the never ever hydrogen cars are still in the concept stage as they were 20 years ago and 20 years before that. Now they are still 20 years away !!

Actually I agree with your ideas on recharging at home.
As far as Hydrogen is concerned, we already use electricity to produce Aluminium, and if you have Aluminium, you just need to add water and a few extra ingredients and you can produce hydrogen. So maybe in the future, we would just need to chuck a few empty coke cans in the back Smiley

Electricity that is currently produced from fossil fuels can be produced from renewable sources in future. There are already huge Solar thermal arrays in California.

There's so much we don't know, and such little time (in one lifetime) to confidently understand what we do.

You need energy to create hydrogen because hydrogen does not occur naturally.

It can be shown that hydrogen cars are a quarter of the efficiency of a battery electric car simply because the hydrogen has to be created using more energy as well as transported and pumped under intense pressures. Why not bypass the hydrogen phase and go direct using a battery. A battery electric car can be charged up anywhere there is a source of electricity and there is no need to get ripped off at the bowser which is what the powers to be want Wink

We need the greens to have the balance of power in the senate. The greens need to raise $70,000 by Thursday for crucial advertising. Please help if you care about the future of your children, and your children's children. Go on, do it, 10 bucks won't hurt.
