They ARE a lot of fun Froggie, but these songs mean a lot more to me than as just sheer entertainment, particularly the Johnny Horton tracks. There is a real, enthusiastic celebration of heritage, race and ancestry inherent in this music, without a hint of the dreary 'culture of critique'-esque self-reflection, emphasis on supposed past transgressions and attempts by sneering intellectuals to deconstruct traditional Western heroes. There's little to anything in the pop culture that I grew up with (1990s, 2000s) that doesn't just make me miserable and pine for the future of my civilization, which is why I find this sort of music so refreshing.
Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I don't think that I put all that much "depth" into why I like the music from this period, imp.

It just reminds me of the good times and good mates that I had back then.
Sure, there were some rough times, but nothing that we didn't manage to survive.
