Am not surprised to hear that from you Aussie - sitting all day every day on your brains in a cab listening to Hindi music how could you know of the talent and influence of the Carter Family? Just like the music of the Beatles weaves a thread through today's music (whether you like them or not), the music of the Carter Family did exactly the same many years before.
