Helping outstanding young Australians to realise their potential

As part of its commitment to supporting communities around Australia, NAB is proud to present the NAB Sheikh Fehmi El-Imam Scholarship. Designed to help strengthen the links between NAB and the Muslim community, the Scholarship will enable an undergraduate student to continue their post-graduate studies in finance and economics, here in Australia or at an overseas university.

A special feature of the Scholarship will be to encourage the development of Shariah-compliant financial products and services.

What is Shariah finance?

Shariah-compliant financial products and services allow Muslim consumers to participate in financial transactions in a manner that is in accordance with their belief system. Shariah-compliant finance is a burgeoning market trend across the Middle East and Asia and is also growing rapidly throughout Western Europe and North America as a workable alternative financial option.

What does the Scholarship provide?

Imran Lum, our 2007 winner has received a one-off scholarship payment of $25,000 towards further study, and the option of employment with NAB (full time or part-time) for 12 months during or at the conclusion of his post-graduate studies (Subject to a suitable position being available and NAB's standard governance procedures.)

Who can apply?

If you're an undergraduate student in your final year of study, you intend to pursue a Masters or PhD in finance and economics and you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident, then please apply. The successful applicant will be an active community participant with a track record of leadership and initiative.
A special feature of the Scholarship will be to encourage the development of Shariah compliant financial products and services*.

To apply, please submit an application including:

    * Curriculum Vitae
    * Proposed area of study
    * Academic Record

     And a letter stating:

    * How your area of study will meet the Scholarship objectives
    * How you will use the funding
    * Why you should be selected

Applications should be submitted to scholarship@nab.com.auby  Friday July 17 2009.

Selecting an outstanding young Australian

The successful candidate will be responsible for forging relations between NAB and its diverse communities by developing new and exciting alternative financial opportunities. The Scholarship will promote and encourage the development of thought leadership across diverse fields while enabling the applicant to fulfil their personal and professional potential in the area of Sharia compliant finance.

Following a review of all submissions, a short list of applicants will be interviewed and a recommendation made to the NAB Sheikh Fehmi El-Imam Scholarship Board. The Board comprises senior representatives from NAB and the Muslim community*.

*Membership of the NAB Sheikh Fehmi El-Imam Scholarship Board is comprised of senior NAB executives and respected members of the Islamic community.

Sheikh Fehmi El-Imam

Sheikh Fehmi El-Imam (AM, JP) is one of the longest-standing members of the Australian Muslim community, Secretary-General of the Victorian Board of Imams and Senior Imam at the Preston Mosque in Melbourne's northern suburbs. Sheikh Fehmi El-Imam is a leading figure in the Australian Islamic community and a great Australian role model. In 2001, he was awarded the Order of Australia in recognition of his tireless work to promote tolerance and harmony between Muslims and the wider community in a bid to realise the ideal of a multi-faith and multicultural Australia. The Sheikh has also initiated many philanthropic activities, including the Islamic Community Auxiliary for the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne (ICARCH). The Sheikh is highly respected throughout Australia across government, inter-faith, community groups and the wider community. It is with pleasure that NAB name this scholarship in his honour.

Moslems within non-moslem societies do not try to integrate into those non-moslem communities.

Rather, moslems will unceasingly seek to inculcate ISLAMIC practices and values into their host communities.

This is all a moslem process of slowly forcing local 'unbelievers' of the host country to accommodate ISLAMIC practises, and Sharia values.

EXAMPLE #1
This NAB scholarship, and its promotion of 'Shariah-compliant financial products', is yet another example, showing how ISLAM / moslems at every turn always reject adopting the culture and values of their host country, but rather seek to bend the host country, to accept ISLAMIC values, and norms, and practices.

Always, moslems will try to insist, that the host community must change to accommodate ISLAMIC practises,
....NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

Soon Sharia compliant banking, for the West, will be shown to be a system of fiscal 'handcuffs', with devout moslems holding all of the keys for those 'handcuffs'.

Once it is established, those who do not comply with moslem demands in other areas of community life, and practices, WILL BE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST.

EXAMPLE #2
Another blatant example here, where moslems demand that the host community must change to accomodate ISLAMIC practises.....

UK: Muslim doctor says she was fired for attending Friday prayers
Here again we see the same phenomenon playing out that we have seen many, many times over the last few years: a Muslim demands that a workplace change its practices to allow for Islamic observance, rather than dealing with the parameters of the job as it is.
.....Will Muslims be established as a privileged class in Western countries, with rights that others don't have, or will equality of rights and equality of treatment be maintained?

http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/026131.php

The only 'multiculturalism' which ISLAM accepts, is a one way 'multiculturalism', where non-moslem communities must change to accommodate ISLAMIC practises.

The 'multiculturalism' which ISLAM promotes, is one where the 'unbelievers' of a host country must be made to accommodate ISLAMIC practises, and Sharia values.

EXAMPLE #3
Muslim chef sues Britain’s largest police force, claiming religious discrimination because he was expected to cook bacon and pork sausages
Stealth jihad in action: when Islamic law and Western customs conflict, in a Western country, which will have to give way? And what precedent will be set by the endless accommodation of Islamic rules and sensibilities?
........Why must the job change to suit you instead of you changing to suit the job?
......"If he had a fundamental objection [to cooking pork], he should go and work somewhere else. Hiring a chef who won’t cook sausages to work in a police canteen is like hiring a lifeguard who can’t swim.
"Typically, I would imagine, the police were so terrified of being accused of ‘racism’ that they took him on regardless."
But Khalid Sofi, Mr Khoja’s lawyer, insisted there was "an important issue of principle at stake" in the case, with ramifications for the police and wider society in Britain.
"He has genuine and strong religious beliefs and expects that they will be accommodated," he said. "’The Met is a very large organisation and could easily have met his demands.

http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/026056.php

Someone here, has the 'horse and cart' hooked up correctly.....

"You can join some other institution if you do not want to observe the rules. But you can't ask the school to change the rules for you," Justice Katju observed....

http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/025467.php

i.e.

What Justice Katju is effectively saying is....
"You, as a devout muslim, can go and live in a Sharia jurisdiction, if you do not want to live by the rules and practices of a secular society.
But you can't ask a secular society to change its rules just for you [muslims]."

++++++++++++

The TRUE nature of ISLAM [and its nature towards all 'unbelievers'] is revealed within ISLAM's own religious texts.

Study the Koran & Hadith, and learn ISLAM's TRUE nature....

"Let not the believers Take for friends or helpers Unbelievers rather than believers: if any do that, in nothing will there be help from Allah:"

quran 003.028

"O ye who believe! Take not for friends unbelievers rather than believers: Do ye wish to offer Allah an open proof against yourselves?"

quran 004.144

"O ye who believe! Take not into your intimacy those outside your ranks: They will not fail to corrupt you. They only desire your ruin: Rank hatred has already appeared from their mouths: What their hearts conceal is far worse. We have made plain to you the Signs, if ye have wisdom."

quran 003.118

"O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them."

quran 005.051

In its pure form [which is not presented openly to 'unbelievers'] ISLAM promotes within its own community, the hatred of
all
'unbelievers' who resist ISLAM's authority, over their lives.

And where is NAB's zakat being spent? What Islamic 'welfare' causes are getting this money? I recommend boycotting the NAB.

EXAMPLE #1

Yeh those poor little multi-billion dollar banks, always having to accomodate minorities because they're so weak and easily controlled, my heart goes out to them.... Are you for real?

The bank instigated this scholarship, no doubt, to try and win over some of those prospective Muslim customers who are increasingly preferring the services of Islamic co-operatives. This is about fortifying profits and nothing more. Your irrational fear of  Islam has caused you, yet again, to detach the logic clamps and blast off for fairytale land.

EXAMPLE #2

I don't see anything wrong with a Muslim taking their lunch break at the time of Friday prayers. People do have outside work commitments, and companies have to learn to accomodate them, so long as it doesn't infringe upon company time. Like the mother who starts a little early so she can knock off in time to pick up the kids... What business is it of yours? Or like the smokers who shorten their lunch break so they can go out for a ciggie every hour. Quite frankly if a company wasn't willing to be that flexible I simply wouldn't work for them. I've yet to come across an employer so far who has not been willing to, luckily hicks like you rarely get into management positions. Guess they're all just too scared of the Muslim lobby right?

EXAMPLE #3

This one I must concur, he shouldn't have taken the job if it involved that and he wasn't comfortable doing it.
