Well to get back on topic, one thing that Allah, Jehovah, God, etc. all have in common, is that they are all make believe.

A little like santa and the tooth fairy, they are a human invention, which serves a purpose for some, but personally, I find santa, and the tooth fairy, far more benevolent, they won't try and condemn you to eternal suffering if you don't toe the line.

Good point muso, in fact wearing Niqab (Burka is not really an Islamic word, perhaps it's an Afghani word or something) is actually quite rare amongst Muslims, very few Muslim women do it, and most of the Islamic scholars did not say it was required, except in times of social chaos.

Also an interesting exercise is to goto google images aand type in "virgin mary", in pretty much every single picture you'll find of her, she's wearing hijab...

There are some groups of Christians who still to this day wear hijab, as do orthodox Jews.

My response.....
Christianity today, deserves those harsh words from Pat Condell [watch the Pat Condell YOUTUBE presentation!].

A lot of what Pat Condell said, is TRUTH, and [sadly] his words make so much sense,
.....and such TRUTH is a [rightful] condemnation of the Christian church today.

The TRUTH of what Pat Condell says [to, and about the church] is a rightful indictment against the Christian church today.

Pat Condell is good.

I have no doubt religion can and has been a good thing. Especially for Western society. There would be no Europe without the Vatican and the Catholic Church, or, at least not Europe as we know it. Europastan would have come about 500 years earlier.

As we talked about Yadda, extreme problems, call for extreme statements. And Pat Condell, mostly, gets stuck into Islam. He m,akes some very good criticisms of Islam which needs to be heard.

He is also a very good public speaker, and fearless. Remember, he lives in England, where there are way more muslims than there are here in Aus.

The Internet is also a human invention. It came about by people wondering what could be. Human imagination is a wonderful thing.

The only way we can reach outside the mundane is to think outside the box of rationality and just have the occasional crazy idea- the occasional bright spark. If we have enough crazy ideas, we might just kindle the fire of knowledge.

Maybe religions and belief in gods are not entirely rational, but neither are human beings, nor our thought processes. I like to celebrate that which is human, but not necessarily rational.

Like Richard Dawkins, I guess I'm a cultural Christian, but during my life, I have enjoyed my exposure to many other religious cultures throughout the world.

Muso, actually invention of Internet was due to american military need for communication network that could withstand nuclear attack. Is threat of nuclear attack a wonderful thing?

The US military didn't invent it. They had a network with ftp, telnet and converse servers. The HTML based web originated at CERN.

Internet is interconnected networks. What data type you transfer via it is irrelevant.
