Bathurst 1000

yyyyeeeehhhhhaaaa - its on again !!

A BIG crash in practise . Paul Radisich went straight into a concrete wall.
His throttle probably stuck. Imagine that, a throttle sticking wide open on a V8 racing motor going into a sharp corner.

Any picks for a winner ??

I'm happy to see anyone win as long as it's not a Ford or a Kiwi   Wink
Well I can live with a Kiwi winning as long as they're driving a Holden. But I think Winterbottom might win.

..Oh btw..is this your team?

I suppose you're right there because you don't need to be a good mechanic to own a Holden.

Anyway, may the best Holden drivers win.

I know it's only a one lap qualifier, but geez, Tander looked good this afternoon.

Any news on the crash in the Mini race?  Saw footage of the car on tow truck with roof cut off!

Well Sprint? Aren't you going to glaot?

I was really hoping that that "Thunderbirds character" Lowndes, was going to run out of fuel on the last lap  Sad

I even found myself barracking for a Kiwi  Shocked

amadd - no, I'm not really a gloater.
Only saw the last 40 or so laps.

Was a good race, not much in it.
Steve Richards ford that finally finished 3rd held up Murphys holden (2nd place getter) for quite a few laps.
Kept the pressure off Lowndes well.

bad luck for Richards - he must be getting close to the win.

Good race

Steve Richards won in 1998 and 1999.  Don't tell me you feel sorry for a Kiwi!

Was a good race indeed.

I heard real Aussies don't like Falcons and Ford are going to graveyard the production of them.

Is this true? The second part I mean.

Awww man. I'm sorry to spoil the party guys, but how can you watch that boring crap?  Tongue

How long does the stupid thing go for? 2-3 hours? Watching the cars go round and round and round and round and round??? And only a fifty-fifty chance of a winner? Holden or Ford?

The best thing that ever happens is this...

Honestly, what the heck is the fascination? Give me AFL or dare I say it Rugby (Both League and Union) any day of the week.

Fair enough rant. I'm not really interested in the supercars, but Bathurst is the "Melbourne Cup" of production car racing. Give me AFL anyday too (go the dogs!!)
I find it ridiculous the way they bunch up the field every time the safety car comes out. It doesn't seem very fair to me.

And yes it is hard to find too many exciting bits in over 6 hours of racing.

Pretty much with Phil on this one. I did watch it once as I once watched the Melbourne Cup. Never again. Even though the Melbourne cup is a shorter event I think it is worse though. I mean the race lasts 2-3 minutes or something but there is a 12 hour televisual feast where the average joe can spend the day with the glitterarti and the rich, because they know we so much love to watch them hand shake, sip Moet and wear stupid clothing.

AFL rules, and god I hate the months without it.

easel - I'ld think that is true.
our population is too small to support 3 car manufacturers.

And, other manufacturers make cars that are more consistant in quality.

That's true oceanZ. I enjoy watching chess for a while but I, to my great shame am an abismal chess player. I just cannot come to grips with thinking multiple moves ahead. But yes, I can watch archery and shooting events where other friends of mine cannot.

I detest cricket so much that I could not possibly care less if Australia never played or won another game. But I also love motorcycle road racing. The reason I don't like watching the cars is that the bike can pass on corners with greater ease so it can be a greater test of skill rather than just blocking to way.

Many years ago I watched a bike race between Rob Phillis and Malcolm Campbell and the lead changed between these two riders about 6-8 times a lap for about 30 laps. I've never seen a car race come even close to that.
