Sexist advertising
Oct 25th, 2007 at 10:48pm

You guys get peeved at the amount of blatently sexist advertising ?

A large breasted woman has NOTHING to do with the next car I buy or holiday I go on.

I find it an offense to my intelligence.

Whenever I see a woman with large breasts advertising I always nip right out and buy one.  I have 200 women now.

I tell you what annoys me more about ads - how every bloke in the ads has fallen through a roof, or microwaved the dog, or sawn his own hand off, or buttered the kids for lunch.  The dudes always look like complete wallys.  I don't know about you chaps but I have never once washed a kid in the washing machine or the usual round of completely stupid things we allegedly do.  Why do ad agencies think ads will appeal to people if they have complete loonys in them?

Give me large breasted women every time.

Absolutely so deepthought,
Us men are routinely portrayed as idiots.

The media brainwashing/image of us men is pretty bad, to say the least.

We're very capable of caring for kids, running a house.

Of course.  I have a whip I crack and the little buggers do it all while I exercise on the couch.  I can flick through 200 channels a minute.

Don't get me wrong sprint, some of the ads are funny, but mostly they aren't.  They just make everyone in them look pathetic.  That's not appealing and it doesn't make the 'product' (whatever it is) look like something I might want to have.  The RACQ are one of the worst offenders with everyone in them looking like simpletons.  Needless to say I don't have RACQ insurance for fear I will lose more marbles if I get involved - I'm already simple enough.

What is particularly interesting is that ads for women's stuff (personal hygiene plugs and stuff) feature seductive women wearing next to nothing.  Why?  Men don't buy that stuff.  Is it because women get off on near nude girls?

A selling point DT.

A part of a woman believes that if she buys that product she will look like that person selling the product.-sounds totally illogical? Its the female brain. Is why youll never see a "big" girl selling products to either sex. Men dont like to perv on big girls and women dont want to be them. All psychological. Men think if I have that car Ill pull chicks like her. .Although you dont consciously think that when you are looking at the ad/promotion. Its subliminal.

Why do women always buy clothes that its obvious that they will never ever fit into? Because they saw them on a svelte super thin model thats why. Women make no sense at all- even to me.

It's the same with advertising men's products. Some of them anyway - not beer. Seen a lynx ad lately?

You make a good point oceans.  Perhps somewhere beyond the criticism is a subliminal feeling or urge to mimic, to be just like that person.  Just as in the Lynx ads for men that free speaks about.

I, however, prefer ads like the beer ads - they show regular blokes.  Not glamorous or partucularly attractive, just blokes like you'd see anywhere.  All ads should be like that.

I take the point about fatsos too oceans.  They never appear in ads unless they are ridiculous.

I think I'll stop buying products, starve to death while smelling of BO and show the agencies what I think of their products.

I dont think you should starve DT- we need all the humour in this world that we can get.

I think that we women are not fairly represented in ads either. The RACQ ads offend me too. They dont represent real men or women I believe. They make women look like vindictive  gossipy bores- I dont identify with that image . Its insulting to have women potrayed as the kind of creature who would take pleasure in humiliating her partner in public or anywhere for that matter.

When will marketers realise that pple do not like to patronised male or female.

Just as politicians should realise the vast majority of the elecorate is not stupid. I guess its the market researchers who arent doing theyre job properly in the end.

And the beer ads don't portray men to be half as witty as we really are when we're drunk.
