The coalition is copping a flogging in the media today:

Queensland Nationals senator Ron Boswell employs nine staff at a cost of $723,000 per year, but a Senate committee has been unable to discover what they all actually do.

Senator Faulkner said the facts were simple: one, Senator Boswell isn't a minister; two, he isn't a parliamentary secretary; three, he has nine staff; four, he has more staff than every parliamentary secretary in the country and, five, he has more staff than a number of ministers.

"But six we haven't got a clue what he does. You can't say what he does and there is no accountability ...and frankly this is the only place you can try and get answers to these questions.

Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd has promised to spend less than John Howard on government advertising, branding the prime minister's current ad campaign a "cancer" on Australian democracy.

Prime Minister John Howard can't claim to be a responsible economic manager when he's wasting taxpayers' funds on political advertising, says Labor.

But opposition treasury spokesman Wayne Swan also suggested the Labor states should keep a rein on political advertising expenditure.

"It doesn't matter who is spending money, if it's being spent on blatant political propaganda such as John Howard is doing at the moment, it is not right," he told ABC Radio.

In previous elections the media has been HARD on the right wingers side. Sometimes embarrasingly so. This election I feel it is hard on the laour side.

The media has been quick to push any two bit poll at the moment that shows a huge dis imbalance- not too mention the hysteria involved in the GW debate

so, quite decisively then ?

Some elections I have seen, has been rare to see the leader of the oppostion, unless of course he has been protested against.
When Paul Keating won "the unwinable election" was a classic example.
Was just extradionary what happened there. Women still like him.

I believe, people vote for who they think is going to win. As opposed as to who they want.
They "go for the favourite."

That is the media , that is the polls. John is speaking what he sees when he says they are going to get anihillated. it looks bad.

As bad as it looks, thats just the nature of politics and has been for decades. A party can only hold their seat for so long. When times are bad, people want change...and when things have been good for too long, people want change. It's the fickle nature of the public.

As unfortunate as it may seem, Labor might get in this time but given their track record for financial restraint and jobs for the boys, it won't be long till they're turfed out again when things turn to sh!te quickly.

I don't think there has been a Labor govt anywhere that hasn't been mired in controversy in some way.

I think the voting public is a little more intelligent than that Sprint.

You cant explain away the polls this simply I dont think., I must admit part of me feels a bit sorry for Howard at the moment.

Maybe a bit too late..but I see he could have been a good PM..exceptional in fact, if only he remembered to treat people as human beings and not cattle.
