The Defence Department says a major military exercise across northern Australia next month will not impact on the environment.

They are not going to say "it will impact on the environment".  They will have the Americans with them and will be testing all their new equipment in a national forest.  They will be using submarines and aircraft as well.  The Japanese may also be joining them.

I don't believe them.  The ADF have a reputation for coverups.

Twelve thousand Australian soldiers and nearly l4,000 US troops and sailors will take place in bombarding our shores and fragile landscape, storming our beaches, gunning down 'terrorists' in the newly built urban guerrilla warfare training centre, and testing their latest laser-guided missiles and 'smart' bombs in some of the most pristine wilderness on the planet.

Environmentalist and documentary filmmaker David Bradbury, who is campaigning against the war games, says: “Idyllic Shoalwater Bay near Rockhampton will cop it all - live aerial bombing, ship to shore naval firings, underwater depth charges exploded in areas where turtles and dugong breed, nuclear subs using high level sonar frequency which zaps the hearing of sea life and mammals, nuclear aircraft carriers inside the so-called Great Barrier Reef marine national park, land-based artillery firings blasting the hell out of areas where the most amazing biodiversity in Australia is to be found.”

Hundreds of people have marched through Brisbane to start a week-long rolling protest against joint US-Australian defence training exercises about to begin in central Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Saturday's protest saw more than 350 people mourn the death of Australia's independence and sovereignty in a mock eulogy and funeral procession through the streets of West End in inner Brisbane.

Victoria's Anglican leaders are protesting over Australia's involvement with US war exercises.

Synod spokesman Reverend Harry Kerr said dangerous chemicals and ammunition were a risk to Australia's environment and people.

A protest was held outside St Paul's Cathedral in central Melbourne over the war exercises.

War games protesters arrested

Two men have been arrested and charged by police for chaining themselves to a US marine vehicle in protest against a military exercise on Queensland's central coast.

It is alleged the pair locked themselves into position underneath the vehicle while it was stopped at a set of traffic lights on the Bruce Highway at Rockhampton.

The two men refused to move for up to 90 minutes, causing major traffic delays, police said.

Each has been charged with one count of public nuisance and will appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 13.

A 42-year-old man and 36-year-old woman also were charged with one count each of public nuisance following a protest at an entrance to the Shoalwater Bay training area.

A 28-year-old man was arrested and charged with one count of trespass on Commonwealth land at the same protest.

All three will appear in the Yeppoon Magistrates Court on August 2.

On Saturday 11 protesters were arrested and charged with trespass, including a 66-year-old woman from Goodna, south of Brisbane, who went missing in the training area on Tuesday.

At least five other protesters were charged with trespass earlier in the week.

A group of 18 anti-war protesters have fronted a Central Queensland court over a colourful demonstration during joint US-Australian military exercises in June.

Their protests allegedly included playing Frisbee on an airstrip, climbing a cow fence and refusing to return, and dancing the Hokey Pokey at the Shoalwater Bay Military Training Area on the Capricorn Coast.

Two were also arrested naked and embracing while shouting "make love, not war".
