I think you might be seeing the demise of the Green Party. The electorate is looking for something else. They need another choice to bring back confidence in democracy and that is a Republic. Now that this country is growing at a higher ratio and modernising even quicker the way we do things must change for us to evolve on a new path. It allows us to have the right people in the job, a doctor for health, an economist for treasury etc. Each position of cabinet would be voted in based on perusal of their cv's. It is the brains we want not the person.

Its got me buggered how Hicks can be charged with an offence that was only made law last year when he has been held for 5 years.
In saying that let me say this,in my opinion he should be in the slammer anyway for being a treasonous bastard. He took up arms against Coalition forces fighting for that murderous bastard bin laden so stuff him

I think we dont know half the story re Hicks to be honest..Only propaganda out of the US which wouldnt isnt worth the paper its written on.

His story will differ vastly from the US nazi style aresholes who have done this to him..He is no traitor, we cant know that yet.
Dont care what the media has said..justice has not and will not be served for Hicks..he has no hope of a fair trial.

I say INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY!!!....He deserves that much.

John Howard is great. They call him the man of steel.
He is my nononsense  knowwhereyoustand honest australianswilldecidewhocomestoaustraliaandhowtheygethere leader of the last 30 years.
Even his morning walks are a lesson to a nation facing an obesity epidemic !!
He does not say anything about it, just does it. Nike should ask him to do an add for them.  Smiley

John does not just discuss the tough topics, he goes out after them !!!
Whether or not we like uranium power, it is wise to openly thoroughly discuss it.

Bill Clinton was a great leader also. He was underrated

sprintcyclist, u forgot to add, "provided the US gives it's okay to any decisions John Howard will come up with".

with the amount of sucking up he does to the US, some Americans have dubbed Australia as the "51st US state".

yeah, i'm sure alot of Australian's do resent that.

but u have to admit John Howard has just followed the US, e.g. Iraqi war, and hasn't thought independently (i.e. in Australia's best interest).

Thanks Gavin, how forgetful of me !   Smiley

Yes, I forgot to add that John has further cemented relations with one of our long standing allies.

The most powerful nation in the world. They also have free speech, democracy etc etc.

Good move Johnny.  Smiley

there is keeping good relations with your allies, and then there is just following their line no matter what they do, e.g. invading a country based on false evidence.

John Howard's approach is the latter. Australia needs to have a leader that thinks independently and in Australia's best interests, not one that is just a puppet for more powerful nations.

put it this way, what benefit do u think Australia has gained from getting involved in Iraq?

Hi gavin,

If you don't like him, up to you.
If you don't like some of his decisions,  up to you.
In his position, whatever he does (or does not do) there will always be people to say how wrong he is.

He is my hero. His record is exemplery. If you can do as well, I will vote for you.
A few people in Aussie think alike, he has been voted in democratically the past 3 times.

Easy to mock those who make BIG decisions daily.

sprintcyclist, u still didn't answer my question, what benefit do u think Australia has gained from going into Iraq? was following the US into Iraq in Australia's best interest? if so, then explain how?

my point is a nation's leader should always think in the best interests of the nation and not just suck up or follow more powerful nations, like John Howard is currently doing.

Hi Gavin,

Yes, I think Aussie has gained greatly from siding with the mightiest nation in the world.
My point is being right is not always taking the "nice" decision, or being PC or liked.

Who is your hero ??
