Canadian court redefines family: 3 parents
Jan 4th, 2007 at 11:03am

This is interesting -  a Canadian court has ruled that a child can have three legally recognised parents. The judges decision appears to have been based on the interests of the child, above the political issues involved. The child's mother is a lesbian and her partner now gets legal recognition, without depriving the biological father of recognition, which would happen if the process of adoption was used. The father is also involved in bringing up the child. This recognition is important for custody issues, for example if the biological mother died.

I always thought if it is an adoption all rights of biological parents are waived?

in this case one of the adopting parents would have been the biological mother - the lesbian couple would have adopted it from the biological parents, it's just that one of them happens to be the same person.

Oldest Child belongs to the Father.

Middle-Child belongs to Society (God)

Youngest Child belongs to the Mother.

Glad I only had one set of parents to deal with though.
