Sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this.

I just got a password reminder sent to "ocean_blue." Please let me know if you recieve it.

Note the underscore and fullstop on the end were part of the name. Maybe you left that off. In future you can ask anyone to get the password reset for you. They just have to know your email address or the name. You can get the name from the member list.

I suppose you would prefer to stick with the new name now that it has more posts. If you want I can delete the old one, or if you can log in you can change or remove it. Hopefully then you can change your new profile name to be the same.

Hey freediver.   I saw your forum at D & R.   They are not so much into politics over there and I am.

Keen to discuss your new political party idea.

That's odd. Try refreshing. Do I still show up as an ex member? Does anyone else? I was playing around with my profile files just then, trying to take a bit of a shortcut in restoring my old profile again, so that may have caused a temporary error.

Hi,

I've made a few posts, but I'm new here. I'm a bit cautious about revealing my identity on Internet, but I live in rural Queensland most of the time. I can't help revealing my personality through my posts though.

I also run a Yabb 2.1 board, and previously ran an Ikonboard since about 2000, and manually converted the datafiles over to Yabb (using Excel). I have a couple of reasonably big websites running around 8Gb traffic per month.  So I know the ins and outs of the Admin Centre pretty well. It looks like you have things pretty well organised here though.

Not really.
Is a simple straight answer beyond you?

As an Administrator, you may have special privileges.

I'm not particularly keen on sites where people have multiple ids and pretend they are a crowd or have massive support when they are just one user.

Yeah, I second that... and the paranoid wild goose chases they trigger when members try to "figure out" who's who and how many whos are who using the old paranoid mathematical constant - the square root of bullshit.

Let hope this one gets a more constructive response.

Shouldn't all the topics in "General Board" be posted in their more appropriate specific forums?

Why should the 'General Board' have sub forums? That just makes for more admin. If it were a specific interest forum such as Philosophy/ Psychology/ Science etc... sub forums would be quite necessary.

But for a casual, laid back affair such as this... Is it necessary?

G'day all....Impressive forum..good share of views & comments on issues.

Names Phill..from Qld Oz, I run a few sites and an aussie discussion forum..similiar to this one..but no politics..I try to stay out of all that area, leave it to places as this that seem to know what their doing. well done.

I'm not one for deep politics..never been my thing..too much camel crap, but i do like to read peoples views on it all..seems easier to understand then..
My main interest is the Muslim situation, Actually found this forum by way of tracing Member Mozzaok and an amazing post he made on that issue..

Mozzaok..you made the best post/statement explaining the muslim issue and just how it is..and with your permission has been posted elsewhere..well done.

Hi Sprinty....

Malik.Shakur, it is people as you with your passion and understanding we need to communicate to our troubled societies here in oz..I too admire you for speaking out.

Admin and Staff of OP...well done..an aussie political platform where anyone can come and have their say...

I notice the odd stirrer about..but you gotta have them....
whether they are sent here to keep an eye on things..or their on the other team..makes it all interesting..
Cool Take care All..

It's very addictive too. Welcome Bluebird. I agree with your post on what multiculturalism should be, but I think that Australia is actually quite a tolerant country compared to many.

Hello all, have posted a couple of time and thought I should say hello before I get too carried away.

Now where do I find this "new political party idea," room for a economic democratic socialist / right wing law and order(ist). Wink

Thanks freediver, a lot to read there but I will get through it. Well done though as I have tried to begin a policy list of my own a couple of times. It can become extensive and complicated fast.

I will contribute where I feel able or can offer sensible expansion or criticism to ideas.  Smiley

Interesting forum, I'm glad I found it.
There isn't many politically tuned Australian forums, apart from DebateandRelate, although they would never let you in, something is faulty with democracy there, I guess  Wink

It's always a shame when forums do that. Any idea why they did it? It's usually the start a move to insularity in response to some percieved outside threat.

Nice to see we've got a female 25 year old student in this room.  Cool

It'll give us a better perspective on public opinion in that regard.

I represent the 24 year old guy fresh out of Uni student living overseas.

Hi, I'm Katack.
This well disguised journo looking radical at the NPC today (K-Rudd's White Report launch) stirred something in me, that old political bent that never quite dies. That spot on the clean linen, that defiant hysteria shrieking through the gentle, lilting monotony of phrases rehearsed at the morning brushing of teeth or buttering of toast.
Anyhow, thanks to the internet and a safe decade or so since I was protestin Jabiluka, VSU et al. I can now protest safely from my home,  after a day of kid wrangling and keeping up with events (most days). And I like to give applause to our leaders where it is due too.

I found this forum on Google. So I thought I'd check it out. I love talking politics and religion and have been looking for an online forum to discuss politics that isn't so heavily based on US politics. As interesting and amusing as US politics are, I'd like to talk about politics a little closer to home.

Short bio:
My name is Bob, as you may have assumed from reading my screen-name. I'm an Australian born and bred. I'm currently a student studying IT, but moving into audio production later this year. I'm an Atheist and a Libertarian. My party is the Liberal Democratic Party (known as the Liberty & Democracy Party on some ballots). Like most Australians I don't like either of the major parties but if I had to go one way or the other I'd go with the Liberals.

Hi Bob,

Great to have a new member who isn't a supporter of the Liberal or Labor parties.  Cool

Feel free to post in the multiculturalism and race board (Which I moderate). http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?board=multiculturalism

Looking forward to reading your posts.

Yes, moderation in some other forums is unfair, but as in some regimes you try to fit the cage you are in, or try to break it.

Welcome Happy, by all means bring Grumpy, Sleepy, Bashful, Dopey, Sneezy and Doc, along as well.

Although I suspect that Grumpy and Dopey post here regularly using everyone else's login. Grumpy seems to be using Helian's login lately and Dopey has taken complete control of the Islam board. Wink Grin

While I have disagreed many times with the Chairman, I don't believe he is Dopey. It is no longer the place for either a good discussion or a good argument.

No, I'm afraid I can't claim that, and in any case I'm nowhere near old enough.  I chose that name as to me it's a prominent example of Amero-Australian cooperation and lasting friendship.

Hi all, I've lurked for quite a while and decided to dip my toe in.

A little about me up front.  I am a typical middle class Aussie male wanting to get ahead.  I have a young family.  I am anti-theist, anti-communist and I love my country.  I love science and reason.  I despise advertising of all stripes and blame marketers for dumbing society down.

I think Australians need to be acutely aware of Australia's fragile environment but we should also not be afraid to exploit what resources we have.  I think multiculturalism is a dangerous experiment that we can't turn off.  I think there should be population controls, not just for us but for the world (no idea how this would be achieved ethically though!  What a mess...).

I think it's time Aboriginies started taking some responsibility for their own miseries and I am waiting for a stong black leader to get them moving in the right direction.  I don't accept the blame-whitey-for-everything-whilst-letting-my-kids-sniff-petrol attitude.

I don't have a strong affiliation for any party but instead listen to all sides (except Family First) on policy matters.

Anyway, looking forward to jousting with you all.   Smiley

G'day All,

I found this site via the Polanimal site also hosted on ozpolitic.  I think I may have visited this URL once or twice before but this is my first time registering.

I would have loved to have made a post like Reason's, however I do not know what class I would fit.

I would consider myself Centre of the Australian Political Spectrum.  I drift vicariously and precariously in either direction from there.  It is not really a dichotomy I accept but for simplicity it is easily understood.

I like to think I'm open to arguments on all topics but realistically I'm really only open to arguments on topics that I have not all ready made my mind up about.

I have not seen a YaBB forum before so it will be an interesting adventure.  I look forward to having somewhat meaningful discussions with you all.

Welcome Senexx, I haven't noticed you at Pol Animal but there has been a few problems  there recently so I haven't been there much.
This forum is good, but it used to be better, this place seems to of been taken over by the god squad. I hope you like politics better than extreme religion.

Greetings my little smurfs
(((Hugs)))

It's good to see you here, and read through this amazing storehouse of information you have so lovingly collected. I came across this site while doing a bit research into Australia politics for a political party I intend to create.

I'm quite used to philosophy and spiritual forums, so should fit in well here. You may find me more of an Observer, and I usually speak when spoken to, or when I have something to say.

Keep up the good work my friends.

Hi All!

Allow me to introduce myself...

I'm yet another Yahoo expat, who is looking forward to slotting into your community and getting to know you all.

No doubt, some of you will recognise me from my ID - but I feel that I should explain it to others...

My latest Yahoo ID was thy.nemesis - but I figured that it was a tad too confrontational for a wannabe cyber refugee. Hence, I chose Thy.Equitist for OzPolitic - being a hybrid betwixt my last and first Yahoo IDs.

Anyways, I'm a quirky lefty, who has strong ideals - but I don't take myself too seriously.  Rather, I have a wicked sense of humour - and therefore, I tend to enjoy mutual love-to-hate relationships (of varying degrees) with most right whingers.

Oh, and my last Yahoo ID was originally created in jest - after 3 consecutive Monday morning blacklistings in the lead-up to the 2007 Federal election - and it inexplicably stood the test of time.

So, if anyone mentions 'Nem' or 'Nemesis' - they're probably referring to me!

Cheers

The Yahoo poster formerly known as thy.nemesis

Hey everyone .. I'm Lisa Smiley

I was invited by one of my fellow Yahoo buddies Bobby The Bat .. to check out your site and well .. to join it Smiley

You may have noticed that at present there are a few of us Yahooligans who are crossing over. The main reason for this is because there's been so much nonsense happening over on Yahoo ( ie incessant flaming/trolling/stalking/boards shutting down yadda yadda yadda) .. and many of us are simply over it to be brutally honest.

I do hope your forum is well monitored/moderated.

Ohhh I almost forgot lol .. you're probably wondering who I am lol! Well ... I'm an Aussie girl (born and bred) with migrant parents who came out to Oz as young teenagers back in 1960 (from Greece and Italy). They met and married here in Oz .. and the resultant family (and clan) are all settled in Sydney and Melbourne. We're a VERY traditional family oriented European clan .. which means we're always in each other's faces and yes .. we're always celebrating something which means there's always plenty of fresh home grown and cooked food lol.

As regards my political leanings .. well I am a right wing/conservative young lady who is proud of her political lineage (both my paternal and maternal grandmothers have maiden names which are pretty famous in Fascist circles).

Oh and I am well known for being a tad cheeky <-- ie naughty lol. Pssttt .. I actually voted for Kevin Rudd back in 2007 (meh so did 99% of Australia) but shhhh my family know nothing about my political transgression lol Smiley

Lastly .. if I'm posting online during the day .. chances are that I am at work and having lunch or some other break at my desk. If I am posting at night .. chances are that I am ALSO cooking something awesome in the oven, monitoring my dishwasher and/or washing machine and/or clothes dryer .. as I get through my domestic goddess routine lol Tongue

Many thanks for your warm welcome.

Regards Lisa x

You can go ahead and introduce yourself again here. There are a lot of regulars here who know nothing about yahoo. To be honest I was surprised that there was an active Australian politics forum that none of us had heard of (that I know of). A lot of the members here know each other from a few different forums, like cracker and political animal. I like to think there is a small community of people around, rather than a bunch of disjointed message boards.

We hit a new record today - 18 members online at once. I think the previous record was 14, from October 2008 (or here). I just checked and 7 of the 13 members now online look like ex yahoo members. You guys have breathed a lot of life into this place. Thanks.

Hi everyone. Good to be here. My Political background is that I once lived with one of the original Anti-Apartheid Dissidents (the others were shot) that escaped here to Oz. He taught me that Kevin Rudd will be our next Prime Minister and that was in 2003. I was doing an Art course at the time for my pet project, the Australian Flag. I also created a sub-political Party known as the U.F.O or United Federation of Oceania. It was designed as a watch-dog upon the Republican Movements a while back like Real Republic and the A.R.M. I currently work on a Farm.

Greetings, Ozpoliticans, i'm a 32 year old media communications student and amateur wanna-be political satirist.
I stumbled across your boards a while back, (may have even been years ago), and was once a cracker forum and yahoo message board participant prior to their flops.

Cheers.

Why thank you very much Annie, and before we get started, I should advise of the following, so this sites admin may ascertain whether or not I am suited to this environment.

~Lets cut to the chase~

-Political orientation : Liberal ( though Missing Costello terribly)
-Religion:
Atheist/agnostic, in other words, I want to believe that I might want to believe some day.
-Humour: A tad warped/bent at times
-mass Immigration tolerance threshold:Factor zero
-Diplomatic: No, not very, and much more than I would like to be.
-Racial/cultural tolerance: For existing Australians who wish to Australianise, assimilate, much!

Well, it was lovely seeing you all again here,(Those who Yahoo rejected).... but I have work to do now, so might pop back in another time.

I came here to discuss politics, though it appears there is an overwhelming emphasis being placed on the discussion of Yahoos forums, and it's expired members.
A slow day perhaps?

Cheers

How brilliant - actual socio-political discussion! Look forward to being inspired / incensed! I am a leftie, and a feminist - not sure why I am not at all excited about the rise of Gillard. Kevin 07 still lingers in my heart!

It's at the bottom of the front page of the forum - either click on the FORUM button or use the following link: -

http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl

See snapshot below...

I also find the link to View the 10 most recent posts useful to track what is currently happening across the boards - it is the best way I have found, of viewing the most recent posts - without needing to click on separate threads...

Hi Guys and Gals
Another ex yahooligan
It is not just the closure of the message boards, but the comments on news and election issues etc. has gone dead, Posts arguing an unapproved case never appear or are removed.
Smiley
Not worth even reading their news or trying to comment.
As "The John" I at least have some posts left in the GFC issue at least.
That will be my last post there

Hello and welcome everyone!

Hey Saifudeen! I know you from politicalforum.com - I'm Makedde there! Nice to see you here, too!

Well folks, I have an interest in politics, and thought it might be a good idea to learn a bit more about Australian politics, so here I am.

You can probably tell I am a huge fan of our fellow Aussie Vanessa Amorosi. Got to meet her once and see her perform live - wow. What an amazing talent she is.

Umm...I could probably be described as a very liberal person - nothing to do with the Liberal Party, mind!

I am a Labor supporter, can't stand Tony Abbott or the FFP, but am not even sure I like Juli enough to want her to win. I find myself agreeing with most of what the Australian Sex Party has to offer, but will still likely vote Labor and put my preferences toward the Greens.

Nice to meet you all!

FYI, folks: a new record has been reached this arvo: -

Quote:
Most Members ever online was 25 on Today at 1:26pm

That's 2 up on the previous record, set only a matter of days ago!

28 today at 1:03pm. Maybe it's a lunchtime thing.

Either way, OzPol is a happening thing - with quite a few new registrations too!

Maybe or maybe not?

30 today @ 5pm!

Just saying hi.

I'm looking forward to having many lively debates about pretty much anything. I'm usually right wing in many areas, however in some areas I'm fairly left, so I'm a bit of a mixed bag. I also hate mornings, women with prams, promiscuous people and male macho behaviour.

Ciao.

first time joiner, long time viewer
must say some of the comments on here are out there, i think if you said them in day to day happenings you would be guaranteed to have a fist in your face. However, i love the fact that on here, you cant.
Not one to usually discuss politics or money outside family, due to the heated nature of my discussion, but looking forward to hearing outsider opinions and getting handy hints

Hi everyone,
I am only new, so thought I would introduce myself.
Mum to a 3 year old boy.
Born and raised in the bush. Mongrel bred Australian.
"deferred" uni (for 12 years)
Moved to city after school for work .
Married my high school sweet heart at 22.
Slopped around in blood and guts in meat works for 9 years on night shift to pay the mortgage and paid taxes out the wazoo.
Fell pregnant, had my gorgeous son.
Got divorced after 10 yrs. Lost everything (materially) but have my boy 100% of the time.
Going to uni now, getting myself educated so I can support him regardless of anything else.
Dad/Granddad/great dads all ex army diggers. (Vietnam/WW1/WW2). Great Grandad mum's side veteran of Gallipoli. Mum and 8 other members of my family all school teachers.
Proud of my family (all steps and stairs, races and breeds of them) and love my country. Vote labor (usually).
A tad outspoken Wink i am looking forward to participating and learning new perspectives!
kind regards Smiley

Welcome, Tara - and best wishes for the impending the onslaught by the resident rabid right whingers (who, thankfully, are somewhat balanced-out by their more reasonable Conservative peers)!

Hello. I am Doctor Brocolli. I have PhDs in applied physics/psychology/biology/medicine and was for a period of my life, a professor at several prominent German universities. I decided to retire in Wilcannia, Australia, after having fond memories of the town after visiting in the 1960s to conduct an experiment for my doctoral thesis in medicine.

I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Catch ya around.

My pumpkin time beckons but welcome to all new political tragics...

Tough question, Arthur - suffice to say that:

The blues think in only black and white - and love to hate the reds and greens...
The reds and greens think in shades of grey and brown - and hate to love the blues...
The numbers are fairly evenly balanced, the minds not necessarily so - and that's regardless of hue...

Yer, I'm shyte at poetry - so it's a good thing that I don't take myself too seriously!

Anyways, welcome - enjoy!

Hello everyone - happy to find that there are some like minded people here looking forward to getting to know you.
I am an elder woman, residing in the sandstone hills north west of Sydney.
I lean to the left side of the political coin but am not limited to that view.
I have an open mind to logic and commonsense.
And I hope for the change needed to bring us to world peace.
cheers all
