I would say that the packaging of most rice would be at least 5 grams. I could imagine that the rice might mildly scour 140mg of packaging during transit and storage.

We already know that plastic bottles filled with water can be reused a certain few times before they break down the plastic and leaches into the water. The concern should be about changing type of packaging for all kinds of food and drink containers.

I have a plastic bag of food in similar size to that of rice packages. When I empty that, I will weigh it to see if it gets to 5 grams. And even if weighs only 1 gram (for whatever f'n reason), I would be still comfortable in thinking that 140mg of plastic could leach off the packaging and into the food itself.

The Chinese have a history of food adulteration, considering their food does contain a large amount of microplastics then why are we importing any of it? Think about it, China cant feed its own citizens yet is exporting food to western countries, doesnt make sense. They buy food from Australia because it is clean containing  no toxins. They are exporting food to us which already is guaranteed to contain microplastics, what is to stop them further adulterating the food with microplastics? Research shows ingestion of microplastics can lead to sterility and is likely the main reason fertility is declining in the Western world. This is a country which deliberately spread the Chinese corona19 virus around  the world using 5 million of their citizens as biological weapons.

I think you, rhino and I are agreeing on the same thing. The microplastics are coming from the packaging as they leach into the food. It is not just rice packaging that I think is the main issue. Any container that is plastic can lead to microplastic contamination of food or drink.

Some of the bulk bags of basmati that I buy, with the zip and the cotton seem you have to undo, contain a thin layer of plastic that deteriorates over time. Having it abraded by rice grains would not help.

Black rice can contain high levels of arsenic if grown in contaminated soil.
