Truvada, which is used for H.I.V. treatment and PrEP — the abbreviation stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis — was formally added as a preventive medication to the list of pharmaceuticals available at subsidized rates under Australia’s universal health care program in April 2018.

As is so often the case, Truvada was developed in the USA but is made affordable and used more effectively abroad--in this case Australia. The American health care system really, really, really needs reform.

And the unintended consequence, now the gays are all catching antibiotic resistant gonorrhea.

Gordon,

God's opinion is that men hated HIM, first.

Romans 1:24
Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25  Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26  For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27  And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

Where our lust and desire for physical pleasure will lead us.

.....away, from God, and from what God loves.

I'm an atheist so I was joking about god, but it's so obvious that part of our societal drive for monogamy is derived from avoiding STIs.

Gays get the burdon of STIs because  they're so promiscuous.

So the idea is people take this pill, which might stop them getting AIDS, have sex without a condom, and this will somehow eradicate AIDS in Australia?

The vast majority of HIV transmission is through anal intercourse. Its simple enough.

Does it work against shared needles? How often does it need to be used to be effective? Should the Australian taxpayers subsidise drug users for "lifestyle opportunities"?

It's very effective at stopping HIV transmission and the  drugs that HIV+ people take now are very effective in making the levels of detectable HIV almost zero, but it's encouraging unsafe sex practices, particularly with gays who are very promiscuous.

Nature has a way of finding a way and it's only a matter of time until a drug resistant strain raveges the gay community again.

I don't see hetereos gathering in parks after dark to have a promiscuous sexual encounter with a total stranger.

As for HIV prevention nothing can beat whiskey dick.... ;)

In Sydney there are dozens of gay saunas where dudes pile in and have NSA sex. They don't even need to talk to each other, just pile in. And then there are the cruising spots, even a particular change room in the CBD David Jones was a known hook up spot. And then there's the gay bars and Grinder.

I worked with gay dudes who would brag each morning about how many partners they had each night.

When I was 18 and thought about sex twice every .3 seconds, I'd have been a regular at a hetero equivalent, if they existed. But they don't.

There's nothing wrong with admitting that young gay men are over represented by blokes who bang like crazy without condoms. That's why AIDS and other diseases are so prolific amongst this demographic. It's not homophobic spot, it's just a fact. A distasteful fact for some people but nevertheless still a fact.
