"A jury has found Wolf Creek actor John Jarratt not guilty of raping a woman in Sydney more than 40 years ago.

The 66-year-old stood trial in the NSW District Court after insisting extramarital sex he had with a woman in a share house in 1976 was consensual.

The complainant was 19 years old at the time and said she did not go to police until late 2017 because she feared she would not be believed.

Mr Jarratt raised his hands in the air and family members began to cry in the public gallery as the verdict of not guilty was returned.

Outside court, Mr Jarratt said he was "over the moon" and thanked his legal team.

"I'm just so relieved," he said.

"It took 15 minutes for [the jury] to make up their mind. It was unanimous.

"No man should have to go through what I went through."

Well - that's a leap in interpretation, consigliore .... the corollary is that the immature may not know the difference - not that they are 'fair game'..... they can only be 'fair game' in the event there is actual wrongdoing....

I used to live just around the corner from him and would often bump into him walking to or from the beach and we used to hit the same cafe, so we were on chatting terms 'locals' style.

So one day were we walking back from the beach, he a few steps ahead of me and we passed a POS old backpackers Falcadore wagon for sale for a crazy price. He just stopped, looked at me and grinned...didn't need to say a word.

I don't believe that John Jarratt did not rape her. But, 41 years is such a long time to report the rape that the complainant should not consider the matter a "rape". John Jarratt's celebrity status these days should mean that the complainant would be even more fearful that she would not be believed.

The Meetoo movement has a lot to answer for pushing women to bring up sexual assault matters that are over 5 years of age. Save for youth or mental impairment concerns, even a month after an alleged rape is a long time to report to authorities.

True, but I think they were quite different cases, Pells was a retrial based on the evidence of the first shown on film wasnt it, he never personally participated in fact did he even make any statement in the first? not sure?

Anyway Jarratts seemed much shorter and simpler I thought but good point though Aussie!

Whatever......in basic terms it was one person's word against another. In criminal cases, proof must be beyond a reasonable doubt. How on this Earth can anyone one of us be confident of proof to that degree when it is one on one.

As you should be aware he wasn't on trial for screwing his "roommate" ...

he was on trial for "rape".

He was found not guilty after 15 mins deliberation

so his name has been dragged through the mud.

He has a right to seek redress

If it can be found that the accusations of rape were false & the boot then ends up on the other foot ..... the accusers.

JJ was raped... not only at thirteen by a bigger kid in boarding school, but also from the moment these accusations were made....

Just like every man accused by a woman these days - the situation I warned against in my submission (there were two dissenting views - mine was one) to the NSW LRC over 'domestic violence laws' (three lies for the price of one) was that implementing such 'laws' that deemed a person guilty without addressing facts would serve to reduce the concept of 'innocent until proven guilty beyond any reasonable doubt on proven fact', and would replace it with guilt by accusation ..... such has come to pass...

No need to thank you for defending your rights .... just part of the service...

Sounds like another case of the Man not being 'guilty' but being taught a very valuable lesson.

He came out 'crying' and upset. It's obvious the women scared him and punished him via the Court Experience.

Sure she may have consented in the belief that he would treat her good. He didn't - he threw her to the trash and in the end, she took him to Court for Rape.
He got off. But he didn't get his rocks off this time.
He got 'scared'.

Such is the 'inner' Guilt. ;)
