At the funeral the other day, my nephew who's a CFO was sitting in the church doing business on his phone.
Right now my grandson is communicating with his science teacher about an assessment project. Time was you finished work for the day & week and that was it. Not any more it seems. People's brains will explode. |

With mobile devices and email people are contactable at all times and they are expected to be contactable at all times by their bosses. I am lucky enough that I am not able to work from home so I can clearly separate my personal life from my work life. Other people in my organization aren't so lucky. I will often receive emails from them with a time stamp of 2am and they still contact me when they are on annual leave. |

And they don’t get paid overtime for it either.
A new type of penalty rate is needed. |

Everyone laughs at my phone its a flip phone from the 90's like Fox Maulder had.
No smart phones for me, I use a phone to call someone if I need to speak to them. Workwise I'm lucky cause technically I am on stand by if something serious happens to the plant but I've been there a few years now and nothing ever has, so generally week ends are to my self and the family. |

I answer emails and txts 24/7 but the payoff is I generally only have to work for 4hrs a day. At the end of my corporate career I was working 12 and in call for free 24/7. |

At one time I was rostered to work every Christmas day for a decade. On the week end Christmas they would have transferred the Public holiday to a different day so that people who didn't work the public holiday could have an extra day off or be paid double time and a half for not working on Christmas day. |

Yes - its like a form of Autism.
People stare at 'screens' all day. TV, Computer, Advertisement Billboards, Iphones, I pads, etc. When they look up from one to you - they all have a 'blank' look on their faces. |
