I did this last night, ironically. But, there are about 100s of websites out there that you can use to download lectures, interesting facts, how-to guides, etc. Try some video sharing sites where you can watch television series.

Isn't it a ripper, apparently, true story, and if you type in the name of the guy that DiCaprio plays, you will find a real picture of him, with bear claws around his neck as a necklace.

And if you look further into his history, you will find how old he was, and how he died.

Well, there ya go!  I was unaware it was based on the life of a real person, Hugh Glass of Irish Scottish descent.  Had a look at the google images of Hugh, and it would not surprise me in the least if he is a distant relative on my Mother's side!

What do you find interesting Mike?

News, lifestyle, cooking, puzzles, movies?

I like Australian movies, comedy, English movies as long as there is no Hugh Grant in them.

news is depressing, lifestyle  shirts me.

Cooking is ok only with a good looking woman host.

I like the sciency shows

Oh, and I'm also an expert on most Simpsons episodes, thanks to kisspanda.net . And I need to get around to watching BoardWalk Empire, Hannibal, and whatever it is about the Game of Thrones series that I apparently have to catch up on so that I know what people are talking about.

Wow,that would be amazing if you found a connection via ancestors.
Do you do Ancestry?

I have a thing for movies based on true stories, and I found this wiki list of movies made over time, based on true events, for anyone that wishes to see this list, it's quite interesting. It always makes me feel in awe, and always fascinated, with the recent movie as The Revenant for instance, the story of human endurance in harsh times. Gosh we have it easy compared to then!

Nah.

While it was harsh/brutal then, at least it was very simple.

Nah.

While it was harsh/brutal then, at least it was very simple.

Don't know if simple means easier, maybe it had to be simpler in mind, for such physical chores to surviving.
Chopping wood for heating and cooking. Boiling the water for hand washing clothes. Etc. The live stock had to be attended to, such as the chooks for eggs, the cow for milk and so on.
The fields had to be ploughed and food grown.

Nowadays, it seems our minds are choc full of so many things to think about and worries, even though our homes are centrally heated, and the automatic washing machine does the washing for us etc. and food is only so easy to cook or buy.

Perhaps things were simpler in earlier days, but now it seems the easier our lives have become with less physical chores, the more complicated our minds are becoming?

Funny thing is, last night, (after I found out how to fix Foxtel as it wasn't working).....my daughter said, imagine, with no tv, and we just related all the time?
I said they used to do that, but not stay up till 1am like we are doing watching Foxtel, it was 'early to bed and early to rise', and she just looked at me like I was from another planet!  ;D ;D

How on earth would they amuse themselves if we suddenly were transported back to another time and place, say 100 years ago?

Step back and have a look at our life today.   We are forced to not do this, do that, fill out this form, go here, go there, do not pass 'go' do not collect $100.00.  Not sure how well I would have gone in the days of Hugh Glass, but it was simple.........survive.  Grab an honest dollar when you could.

Yes, we have more people and more rules, and more consumerism, and more wants, when back then, it was a good thing to have water to drink and wash with, a warm bed, a roof over your head, and food on the table, and good honest friends and family that were supportive.

Also, everyone had more time for other people, whereas now, the more time we save with chores done by machines, the less time we have for anything, including old fashioned visiting friends and family.
We fill it with other stuff, seems we can't just do 'nothing'.

For instance, I would love for the hubby's cousin and her young teen kids to come over and stay, but they are so busy, with the kids activities, and sports, it saps up the time, every week, a routine, must do it.

In the meantime, the years tic by, and then when we do see each other at a funeral, its "Oh gosh, the kids have grown up so fast!"

So why do we, in these enlightened times of the 21st century, seem to do more but have less time to do it in?

Have we expected too much of ourselves to keep busy, just because we have it easier in other ways?

Is time really going faster?

One thing I noticed, I thought, up to now, I have done a lot, so why have I this overwhelming feeling, that I have more to do that I feel I can't seem to get done?
Is that a sign of older age, or new age?

Meant to add, in recent years, I had become aware of books written about 'slowing down' or 'slow clubs' etc.

So I just checked, and there are some books on it, quite a few.

One caught my eye "Slowing down to the speed of life"...great title.

Today, the bins had to go out, (once a week they go out) and I thought, didn't we just bring them in and yet.....they go out again so soon? :-?

Ah!  I posted about that happening to me some weeks ago.  There was this big warning on screen not to turn the Computer off and that I had to call some number.  (Think I posted about it in Technology...maybe Relationships.)

I made the call.....it sounded dodgy, so I turned the computer off, and on and all seems well.

I did a scan as well ~ Trend Micro Maximum ~ and nothing came up.

But....since that happened I have not used the desk top to access bank stuff.  I've been doing that through a laptop I acquired (after that) and I only use the laptop for net banking, nothing else.

All these free movie websites use advertising which appears after a click. One of the adverts that appears tells you to download software in order to watch the movie. Do not download any software from such sites. Close advertising windows and windows that are demanding you download software.
