Julie Bishop has already told the Indonesian Foreign Minister that they have no intention of towing boats back to Indonesia and Abbotts rants are only for domestic political consumption.

Asylum seekers tend to be from countries rife with disease and violence.
They have little respect for law and order - as noted by this year's report from Victoria Police on the fact youths from the horn of Africa have little respect for the law and are 5 times more likely to commit crime than Australian kids.

As regards gays, well I personally have more an issue with them that they always feel the need to throw their lifestyle choice in everyone's face.

How do you expect people to stay away, when we have our politicians talking the place up like it's the greatest country in the world. Of course they're going to come.

The refugees have three options

1. Stay in their war torn country and risk death

2. Stay in a refugee hell hole camp

3. Come here and make a new life

I know what I'd choose.

Honest people who have the intelligence to put themselves in the same situation would choose option 3.

In my younger days , working with livestock , the bulls would be taken off the breeder paddocks for two reasons .

By putting the bulls out for "X" months , the calves would arrive in a certain time frame . The second reason was , to feed them up , get them fit and healthy for breeding . If the bulls or cows were in too poor a condition , they would be infertile , especially the bulls .

Is it too much of a leap , in Third World countries for the males to hog most of the food ? From what I have read , the males like their share and to hell with the others , except the elder sons .

Of the million critiques I've come across about the (supposed) downside to economic growth, I am yet to hear any sensible counter-model. The doomdayers on economic growth are just that latest manifestation of apocalyptic scenarios that have existed for at least 2,000 years. It's the pessimists and depressives of a zeitgeist who conjure these 'end of days' theories. This 'infection' must not be allowed to spread through the populace.

If my good friend red wants an answer here it is: The Australian government has to join with the rest of the free world in opposing dictators and encouraging people to overthrow them. Also encourage military regimes like Burma to move towards freedom and democracy.

Then you won't have to worry, the boats will stop of their own accord.

I don't ever remember saying that I was in favour of it, that doesn't mean it won't happen.

If there was a solution to this global financial crisis, I'm sure we'd just drift across to it, without hardly noticing the change. No one has come up with anything worthwhile yet, so it will be a matter of every man for himself.

Those that are debt free with cash on hand will come through the other end with the least heartbreak.

Does anyone know someone who has a solution to the coming global financial tsunami?

what exactly do you mean with this there bypassing liveable countrys, If they can't afford to live in there own country, they can't afford to go to another country Eg Malaysia, Indonesia, Thats why the have to try to come here to Australia, Because we are a Liveable country. (affordable)

It's legal to seek asylum, in a boat, without a visa.

Paying a people smuggling criminal to set sail in dangerous boats  seems legal but expect a 1 to 3 year  island vacation. Maybe if they didn't throw their ID overboard they'd be processed quicker.
