Title: An Australian Island full of Islamic bludgers
Post by thelastnail on May 14th, 2012 at 6:55pm
check it out !!

If this story is true then what on earth is going on in this country ?  An Island full of useless pieces of rubbish sponging off the welfare system and a lame government bending over to throw more money at them !!

http://au.news.yahoo.com/today-tonight/lifestyle/article/-/13681914/idyllic-welfare-island

Quote:
An island paradise with an idyllic lifestyle comes at a massive cost to taxpayers, with an unemployment rate that varies between 60 and 80 per cent.

It's a little-known Australian territory that's closer to Sri Lanka than Canberra, where locals depend heavily on Centrelink payments to stay afloat.

The bulk of the population is on welfare, and many are claiming much more than they should.

The island’s population relies heavily on Canberra to maintain their isolated existence, and each year tens of millions of taxpayer dollars are channelled to the external Australian territory’s population in the form of welfare payments and grants.

Despite the idyllic setting in the Coco Islands however, there is trouble in paradise.

2,750 kilometres northwest of Perth, and halfway between Madagascar and Canberra, is Australia’s most isolated Centrelink office.

Home Island is the unemployment capital of the Indian Ocean. It is home to a unique group of Australian citizens living in paradise at the taxpayers’ expense.

From the office Haji Adam coordinates welfare payment for the 550 odd population living in the unspoilt paradise that is Australia’s Cocos Keeling Islands.

Adams is not only Centrelink’s agent but also Chief Imam, the religious leader of the Muslim community which for nearly three decades has battled unemployment.

Living in paradise comes at a cost. The jobless rate fluctuates from 60 to 80 per cent, and the cost of importing food and freight is high.

“At the moment I have a number of customers who really have expressed their concern about the rate of payment from Centrelink. It is not really enough because of the cost of living, so I think it is really difficult,” Adam said.

Next financial year, the Federal Government has allocated nearly $53,000 for every person on the islands. All up it is around $37 million to maintain health, education, communication and airline services, and that is on top of a dole bill that runs into the millions each year.

On Home Island you can’t buy alcohol or cigarettes. There are no pubs and pokies, and peoples’ lives are guided by their Islamic faith, but still governed by Australia Law. And while there aren’t the employment opportunities of those from mainland Australia, there is evidence of Centrelink fraud, and it has raised questions as to whether the welfare payments to the Cocos Island are being properly administered.

John Clunies-Ross is the direct descendent of the Scottish family who ruled the islands for five generations. Clunies-Ross’s father was forced to sell the islands to the Commonwealth in 1978, and since then the coconut processing industry collapsed, and the islanders’ jobs evaporated.

“They could not afford what they have, so a few of them have to go on the dole, otherwise they couldn't afford it,” Clunies-Ross said.

There is no work for the dole program, and many of those able to work do so part time to share employment opportunities. But some are still exploiting the system.

41-year-old Azman Arkrie and his five children live in one of the 100 government provided homes on the island. He has been back just over a week from serving two months of a three month sentence in jail in Western Australia for Centrelink fraud.

He has so far paid back $11,000 of the $30,000 he illegally claimed.

Arkrie claims he was unlucky to have been caught, because he certainly was not acting alone.

Next month another home islander will face a court accused of claiming Centrelink benefits for two children who don’t exist, and while many people declined to comment on camera, it was confirmed from various sources across both islands that overpayment of welfare on the island had been rife for years.

Dieter Gerhard has lived on the archipelago’s west island for more than twenty years. He says “Australia has bred a welfare mentality, and it has bred that mentality by basically whatever Home Island, wanted the Government was there writing a big cheque.”

Loyd Liest is the only European living outside the settlement on Home Island. “I know the Government has spent a lot of dough trying to re-educate and retrain the people in that, but it hasn't sort of worked,” he said.

Household incomes are often pooled and a housing shortage on Home Island means extended families live under the one roof. If no one in the household works, combined incomes could be more than $1,200 per week.

“Could there have been a better education program there, that if people were receiving benefits that may have been dubious, to perhaps give them a tap on the shoulder some time ago, and say ‘hey guys, this isn't something that you're entitled to’,” Gerhard asked.

Locals argue that local Imam and Centrelink agent Adam should have done just that, given he certifies all births, deaths and marriages on the island.

He was unable to talk to Today Tonight about the issue, but told us over the phone that despite the small number of clients, he was not privy to all islanders’ welfare claims.

Adam’s bosses at Centrelink in Canberra refused to talk to Today Tonight on camera. Despite having an employee on the island they say they are unable to confirm how many investigations are ongoing into the misappropriation or overpayment of Australian taxpayer funds.

The Imam is the Centrelink boss, too. But knew nuffin' about nuffin', as usual. They probably treat the money from Canberra as dhimmi tax, jizya, paid to the Muslims of the island by the infidel dogs.
Something like that.

ANyway and even more interesting snippet is in this paragraph:

Government buys island  >>> sole industry collapses.

Which is exactly what I was thinking as the program was airing.  They seemed to be making a big thing out of the bulk of the island's population being Muslim, showed scenes of Muslims praying several times, and kept repeating that the Centrelink representative was also the Imam.

What we really have is an island where between 60 to 80% of the local population are out of work, due to the collapse of the local industry, and a select few are rorting the system.  Lower the unemployment figures and it's not unlike mainland Australia.

The Muslim connection was just invented for the program in order to appeal to a xenophobic audience.

In 2010 the population of the Islands was estimated to be just over 600 of which 100 are ethnic europeans and the majority are ethnic Malays, 80% of the population are sunni muslims.

The coconut processing industry might have collapsed yet tourism is the major breadwinner for these Islands and that has not collapsed
http://www.cocoskeelingislands.com.au

How are you going to lower the unemployment rate when muslim women dont work, muslims are the largest group of unemployed people in the west, google muslim unemployment and see what you get.
There was a study done in Queensland which put muslim unemployment about 5x higher than average despite it also claiming muslims get more university degrees compared to Australians.
Falah has a university degree in Arabic,Islamic schools pump out a lot of Islamic scholars yet that does not help you get a job in the real world.

Would the exact opposite of a xenophobe be someone who promiscously embraces foreign cultures while snobbishly rejecting their own culture?

Muslims view centrelink payments as shariah compatible which if you look at the jizya paid by non muslims to support muslims you will see why they have that mindset.

Australia's welfare capitals
December 19, 2011

There are towns and suburbs throughout Australia where more people are claiming unemployment benefits than paying taxes, stuck without work for life.

The 'dole suburbs', where hope is lost, are filled with racial tension which masks the real reason for why there is such a void between those who have jobs and those who don't.

Around the country, in towns where no one works, in streets where everyone is on the dole, the unemployed take aim at migrants, who they believe are taking their jobs.

In one family, there are three generations who have never worked a day in their life. Mum Valerie and daughter Tanya point the finger squarely at migrants.

Valerie and Tanya live in the Sydney suburb of Fairfield. According to statistics released this year Fairfield has one of the highest number of welfare recipients per capita anywhere in Australia. Incredibly, one in five residents is on welfare.

There are suburbs and towns like Fairfield all over Australia. In Queensland the highest dole ratio can be found in the Cairns region, followed by Townsville, Bundaberg, Toowoomba and the fringe suburbs of Beenleigh and Woodridge.

In Melbourne, the Northwest region stretching from Brunswick to Broadmeadows and Sunbury is the ‘welfare belt’. They’re more often than not the same suburbs new migrants locate to for a fresh start at making it in a new country. It makes for plenty of resentment and tension.

But Ali Fahmi isn’t buying it.

At 21 he's been working for six years and runs his own bricklaying business. He needs workers, but he gets no response to job ads. He says any allegation migrants are taking jobs is ridiculous. In his case he creates jobs - jobs no one wants.

Interesting 'fact', from the Dept of Makin Sh1t Up I assume.

How about a little balance, I know you greens aren't too keen on that but what the hell.

Townsville, North Queensland.

•A regional economy worth $12 billion, growing at 16.5%.
•$29 Billion worth of mining, construction and infrastructure projects planned or started for Townsville.
•An unemployment rate consistently lower than Qld and Australia, currently sitting at 4.2%.
•Higher median income than state and national average.
•The largest regional city outside of the south-east corner with a younger population, growing at over 3%.

It's not all rosy in Townsville. The story doesn't mention youth unemployment which is high throughout Qld.

No luck with work a sign of the times

THEY call Australia the lucky country but this New Zealand couple has had no such thing trying to find work.

Jason McLaughlin and Vickie Wells, both 41, arrived in Townsville four weeks ago looking for more job opportunities and a better lifestyle.

They have struggled to find work since stepping off the plane, which lead them to stand at the side of a busy road yesterday with signs pleading for someone to give them a chance.

Economists yesterday warned that while the region's unemployment rate had eased to 5.6 per cent from 6.7 per cent in February it was still difficult to find steady work.

Mr McLaughlin said he was told it would be easy to find work in North Queensland.

"We never thought it would be this hard," he said.

"We're so fed up we got signs and stood on the road until someone spoke to us."

The former waste water technician said better pay conditions had lured them to Australia.

"We were told there was a lot of work here in construction and waste water and we'd heard the economy was good and Vickie would get work easily in sales or retail," he said.

"Before coming here employers said they wouldn't accept a New Zealand worker unless we met in person so I couldn't set up an interview."

After signing up with several recruitment agencies the pair had very little interview offers or call backs.

"So far we haven't had any luck," he said.

"We didn't have savings when we came over, we just had enough to get here and buy a car."

The couple stayed at a friend's place for three weeks and recently moved into a Belgian Gardens half-way house.

Ms Wells, a former sales representative and ambulance officer volunteer, said they now each had job interviews after spending four hours on Dalrymple Rd waving signs.

"I'm working casually in a restaurant at Domain but it's just not enough," he said.

Regional Economist Colin Dwyer said unemployment was still a huge issue for certain sectors of the community.

"It's a significant issue for indigenous people, youth and for school leavers aged 17 to about 24 it's reasonably high," he said.

"The other important sector struggling is older people (and) females have a higher unemployment rate than men do."

The region's unemployment rate for March improved to 5.6 per cent compared with 6.7 per cent in February. The unemployment rate for women was 7.2 per cent and for men 4.2 per cent, based on Australian Bureau of Statistics data from Townsville and Mount Isa.

What's the difference? Even if we brought the inhabitants of Cocos to the mainland, there's still high unemployment. They'd end up getting the same benefits.

It's just a matter of where you'd prefer to live out your workless days. I don't think they're any better off than the jobless here.

I do recall you stating your town / suburb / city having an unemployment rate of around 40%, but you could have been lying to support your usual feeble argument.

BTW we just had an entire battalion move here recently, while they are employed, their families, mostly women and youth are not. It will take some time to sort that out, but rest assured Townsville is a much better city than most for work.

And here is a little bit of info you deliberately left out of your post.  >:(

This has nothing to with religion. The Muslims came to the island to work in the coconut industry .

The Australian managed to destroy the coconut processing industry on the island.

This story should be about how the Malcolm Fraser Liberal Government made these islanders unemployed.

C'mon, ya daft bint, see if you can spot the tell-tale clause.

Any luck??

your all a pack of arseholes
complaining about the taxation.

this great country of Australia made this welfare problem, when they dicided too NOT TRAIN Australians for the JOBS the country needs.

one muslim family man is not the problem, because muslims don't take our jobs , they generally make there own, when they come here to live and take residence in Australia.

They do there own type of employment.

I was in area of Sydney yesterday and I was so surprised how many Muslims there were there.

Also too they did not speak English to each other - both my friend and I could understand them on the bus - they speak in Arabic.

Not friendly too. Stare at us as well because we stare to them.
Haha a true Middle East duel in Sydney, Australia!

Unemplyed orthodox jews are a real problem in Israel. About 20% of the Jews in Israel refuse to work! It is not a matter of work not being available - they just refuse to work.

Quote:
Israel’s latest battle pits ultra-Orthodox Jews against most other Israelis

...Since it also has been traditional for most Haredi men not to work at making a living, but to devote themselves to religious studies, the political parties, often holding the balance of power in coalition governments, also became useful for extracting financial concessions from governments wanting to stay in power.

With a birthrate several times that of other Jewish Israelis, the Haredim have an average of 8.9 children per family and constitute more than 10 per cent of the population of seven million.

With such numbers the majority of Israelis no longer think the public support for the Haredi lifestyle is viable...
