I emailed my local MP, a Labor party member, about carbon taxes, in response to the Greens' proposal:

I have seen some very unfortunate misinformation being spread about carbon taxes, so I was shocked to see the Labor party driving these lies.

The response plugged the Labor party's ETS, and criticised taxes as follows:

A tax simply imposes a cost without addressing reductions.

This is a blatant and hypocritical lie. Both taxes and trading schemes (Labor policy) work by increasing the cost of emissions, and both achieve a reduction in emissions. The only difference is that for any given reduction, an ETS will actually cost more than a carbon tax.
