Title: Julie Bishop blames QLD govt for stuffup

This is a bit rich - it is her own incompetence, or that of her own staff, that she never even bothered to ring the school she intended to visit.

Federal Education Minister Julie Bishop has accused the Queensland Labor government of "micro-managing" her election campaign visits to schools.

Ms Bishop went with Liberal candidate for the Gold Coast seat of Fadden, Stuart Robert, to Southport State High School on Wednesday to announce funding for a $1.2 million home economics block.

But Ms Bishop said when she got there she was told by the school principal he had no prior knowledge of the visit.

While the principal was "rather flustered" by the unexpected visit, he eventually let Ms Bishop and her entourage into the school grounds.

Ms Bishop told AAP she had sought and received permission of Queensland Education Minister Rod Welford last week to enter the school.

"But he (Mr Welford) conveniently forgot to tell the principal," Ms Bishop said.

"It's unfortunate that Queensland Labor is taking this highly political approach to my visits to schools."
