ACCORDING TO YOUR ANSWERS,

The political description that
fits you best is...

.

It's how they asked the questions was how I had to answer. If you ask a question a different way the response may have been different.

STATIST

STATISTS want government to have a great deal of power

over the economy and individual behavior. They frequently

doubt whether economic liberty and individual freedom

are practical options in today's world. Statists tend to distrust

the free market, support high taxes and centralized

planning of the economy, oppose diverse lifestyles,

and question the importance of civil liberties.

I noticed that mine said that I believe in high taxes. That's not true but in this system that we live under sometimes high taxes are necessary. It would be nice to know we had the money in the bank to build 25 nuclear power stations Or develop a Hot Rocks energy grid Or whatever alternative the public decides on. I believe that, if we are short of hospitals the public establishes a 'Build More Hospitals tax' which could be $1 per week via income tax (yes it's the working man that will pay for the pensioner, unemployed and handicap). This way we get the hospitals without restricting needed capital to other areas.

This country has a large infrastructure for a small population so taxes should be noticeably higher than what they are now to pay for everything.

Did you admire Clinton and Thatcher?

Title: Re: Determine your political philosophy....
Post by freediver on Jan 4th, 2007 at 11:43am
Thatcher was a bit before my time.

Clinton seems pretty sensible, but I don't know a lot about him. He gave a very positive review of a book I read recently - "Natural Capitalism." I also liked the book, but it gave some mixed messages about the role of government and laissez fare capitalism. Also, in "Stupid White Men" it sounded like he was in power for a long time and achieved almost nothing for the environment, then just before he got voted out he introduced and passed legislation that would help the environment - only it wouldn't come into effect for another 8 years. Of course Bush revoked the legislation. It seemed like a cynical ploy to hold the voters to ransom. Rather than giving the people what they wanted up front, and what he was elected for, he waited till the next election and threw them a few crumbs that they would only hold onto if they re-elected him.

From what you say it sounds like you do indeed support higher taxes. An additional separate tax is no different from raising the taxes that are already there.

I tried to get the graph to come up - but not as computer literate as I thought.  However I was surprised at coming No. 1 as an American Liberal then an Anarcho-Communist which probably seems a bit more realistic.

Interesting little tests.

I tried to substitute a picture to represent myself on my profile,  one of those little moving pictures - but found it too difficult - even though I transferred the URL into the appropriate space.  I will try again soon, when my concentration is a bit better and add some more detail.

I will also have another go at http://www.selectsmart.com/FREE/select.php?client=no.

Hi all. That is how I scored. No extremes or left or right. I have a hard time with extremist anyway.

CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government

control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on

the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention

and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.

Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind,

tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what

they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

Plus, the last question about the govt. reducing spending 50 percent isn't realistic and could shut down a govt. lol I answered yes because the govt. needs to reduce spending.  :)

Enviro, I don't know what is going in Austalia since I don't live there. My suggestion is conservation for water and energy needs. And looking for other sources.
What do the percentages mean in the poll?

When you say 'Conservation' does that make you a fan of using penalties for reduction of consumption?
Or
Would you rather see infrastructure changed to achieve higher production to meet all needs?

Do you recycle sewerage for drinking water in your country?

Title: Re: Determine your political philosophy....
Post by danni(Guest) on Jan 10th, 2007 at 7:52am
Im from the USA.  Some places here recycle water. I think in Arizona all the water is recycled. In the town where I live the water is yucky and sometimes people get sick.  :( lol It should be penalties for over use not a reduction, ideally. In the summer the town is put on water restrictions only one side of the street can water their lawns and the next day the other side can. And lakes get dried out some years.

Title: Hi USA Ambassador Danni
Post by enviro on Jan 10th, 2007 at 11:58am
It sounds like Australia has been a lucky country up until now. We have been in a drought for 6 to 8 years and our water is reducing dramatically. We all use to take water for granted in this country but not no more. Our leaders are not really doing anything about the water issue except praying for rain. Some suggestions have been desalination plants, recycling waste water and higher prices to reduce consumption. I believe they will use higher prices initially whilst they build the infrastructure for either or both desalination plant and recycled water which may take years.

Which of the options would you choose;

  • Desalination Plant

  • Recycled Water

or

  • Higher Prices?

Do you filter your tap water?

Post by danni(Guest) on Jan 10th, 2007 at 1:19pm
Answer your question since Im online lol I think both desalination plants
recycled water is great. I hope your leaders get going on this subject. I try to contact my leaders once in awhile. They seemed more bothered then anything.
Whats with all the smileys? I think there has been a drought here to although not really severe. The weather  and global warming may have something to with it, maybe even El Nino aka global warming to me. :)

In all fairness to National Socialism... it isn't really as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

Just get rid of the killing Jews part, and it's not a bad system of Government. A combination of both socialism and nationalism.

It single-handedly took Germany out of the depression.
