Note the underscore and fullstop on the end were part of the name. Maybe you left that off. In future you can ask anyone to get the password reset for you. They just have to know your email address or the name. You can get the name from the member list.

I suppose you would prefer to stick with the new name now that it has more posts. If you want I can delete the old one, or if you can log in you can change or remove it. Hopefully then you can change your new profile name to be the same.

I've made a few posts, but I'm new here. I'm a bit cautious about revealing my identity on Internet, but I live in rural Queensland most of the time. I can't help revealing my personality through my posts though.

I also run a Yabb 2.1 board, and previously ran an Ikonboard since about 2000, and manually converted the datafiles over to Yabb (using Excel). I have a couple of reasonably big websites running around 8Gb traffic per month.  So I know the ins and outs of the Admin Centre pretty well. It looks like you have things pretty well organised here though.

Why should the 'General Board' have sub forums? That just makes for more admin. If it were a specific interest forum such as Philosophy/ Psychology/ Science etc... sub forums would be quite necessary.

It's always a shame when forums do that. Any idea why they did it? It's usually the start a move to insularity in response to some percieved outside threat.

Anyhow, thanks to the internet and a safe decade or so since I was protestin Jabiluka, VSU et al. I can now protest safely from my home,  after a day of kid wrangling and keeping up with events (most days). And I like to give applause to our leaders where it is due too.

No, I'm afraid I can't claim that, and in any case I'm nowhere near old enough.  I chose that name as to me it's a prominent example of Amero-Australian cooperation and lasting friendship.

Hi all, I've lurked for quite a while and decided to dip my toe in.

A little about me up front.  I am a typical middle class Aussie male wanting to get ahead.  I have a young family.  I am anti-theist, anti-communist and I love my country.  I love science and reason.  I despise advertising of all stripes and blame marketers for dumbing society down.  

I think Australians need to be acutely aware of Australia's fragile environment but we should also not be afraid to exploit what resources we have.  I think multiculturalism is a dangerous experiment that we can't turn off.  I think there should be population controls, not just for us but for the world (no idea how this would be achieved ethically though!  What a mess...).

I think it's time Aboriginies started taking some responsibility for their own miseries and I am waiting for a stong black leader to get them moving in the right direction.  I don't accept the blame-whitey-for-everything-whilst-letting-my-kids-sniff-petrol attitude.  

I don't have a strong affiliation for any party but instead listen to all sides (except Family First) on policy matters.

Anyway, looking forward to jousting with you all.   :)

I found this site via the Polanimal site also hosted on ozpolitic.  I think I may have visited this URL once or twice before but this is my first time registering.

I would have loved to have made a post like Reason's, however I do not know what class I would fit.

I would consider myself Centre of the Australian Political Spectrum.  I drift vicariously and precariously in either direction from there.  It is not really a dichotomy I accept but for simplicity it is easily understood.

I like to think I'm open to arguments on all topics but realistically I'm really only open to arguments on topics that I have not all ready made my mind up about.

I have not seen a YaBB forum before so it will be an interesting adventure.  I look forward to having somewhat meaningful discussions with you all.

Allow me to introduce myself...

I'm yet another Yahoo expat, who is looking forward to slotting into your community and getting to know you all.

No doubt, some of you will recognise me from my ID - but I feel that I should explain it to others...

My latest Yahoo ID was thy.nemesis - but I figured that it was a tad too confrontational for a wannabe cyber refugee. Hence, I chose Thy.Equitist for OzPolitic - being a hybrid betwixt my last and first Yahoo IDs.

Anyways, I'm a quirky lefty, who has strong ideals - but I don't take myself too seriously.  Rather, I have a wicked sense of humour - and therefore, I tend to enjoy mutual love-to-hate relationships (of varying degrees) with most right whingers.

Oh, and my last Yahoo ID was originally created in jest - after 3 consecutive Monday morning blacklistings in the lead-up to the 2007 Federal election - and it inexplicably stood the test of time.

So, if anyone mentions 'Nem' or 'Nemesis' - they're probably referring to me!

I was invited by one of my fellow Yahoo buddies Bobby The Bat .. to check out your site and well .. to join it :)

You may have noticed that at present there are a few of us Yahooligans who are crossing over. The main reason for this is because there's been so much nonsense happening over on Yahoo ( ie incessant flaming/trolling/stalking/boards shutting down yadda yadda yadda) .. and many of us are simply over it to be brutally honest.

I do hope your forum is well monitored/moderated.

Ohhh I almost forgot lol .. you're probably wondering who I am lol! Well ... I'm an Aussie girl (born and bred) with migrant parents who came out to Oz as young teenagers back in 1960 (from Greece and Italy). They met and married here in Oz .. and the resultant family (and clan) are all settled in Sydney and Melbourne. We're a VERY traditional family oriented European clan .. which means we're always in each other's faces and yes .. we're always celebrating something which means there's always plenty of fresh home grown and cooked food lol.

As regards my political leanings .. well I am a right wing/conservative young lady who is proud of her political lineage (both my paternal and maternal grandmothers have maiden names which are pretty famous in Fascist circles).

Oh and I am well known for being a tad cheeky <-- ie naughty lol. Pssttt .. I actually voted for Kevin Rudd back in 2007 (meh so did 99% of Australia) but shhhh my family know nothing about my political transgression lol :)

Lastly .. if I'm posting online during the day .. chances are that I am at work and having lunch or some other break at my desk. If I am posting at night .. chances are that I am ALSO cooking something awesome in the oven, monitoring my dishwasher and/or washing machine and/or clothes dryer .. as I get through my domestic goddess routine lol :P

Hi everyone. Good to be here. My Political background is that I once lived with one of the original Anti-Apartheid Dissidents (the others were shot) that escaped here to Oz. He taught me that Kevin Rudd will be our next Prime Minister and that was in 2003. I was doing an Art course at the time for my pet project, the Australian Flag. I also created a sub-political Party known as the U.F.O or United Federation of Oceania. It was designed as a watch-dog upon the Republican Movements a while back like Real Republic and the A.R.M. I currently work on a Farm.

With the Yahoo boards down for the day...again...and 12 members currently online here, I'm wondering whether we are getting set to break the record of 18 set on 19th June...

You can probably tell I am a huge fan of our fellow Aussie Vanessa Amorosi. Got to meet her once and see her perform live - wow. What an amazing talent she is.

Umm...I could probably be described as a very liberal person - nothing to do with the Liberal Party, mind!

I am a Labor supporter, can't stand Tony Abbott or the FFP, but am not even sure I like Juli enough to want her to win. I find myself agreeing with most of what the Australian Sex Party has to offer, but will still likely vote Labor and put my preferences toward the Greens.

Moved to city after school for work .
Married my high school sweet heart at 22.
Slopped around in blood and guts in meat works for 9 years on night shift to pay the mortgage and paid taxes out the wazoo.
Fell pregnant, had my gorgeous son.
Got divorced after 10 yrs. Lost everything (materially) but have my boy 100% of the time.
Going to uni now, getting myself educated so I can support him regardless of anything else.
Dad/Granddad/great dads all ex army diggers. (Vietnam/WW1/WW2). Great Grandad mum's side veteran of Gallipoli. Mum and 8 other members of my family all school teachers.
Proud of my family (all steps and stairs, races and breeds of them) and love my country. Vote labor (usually).
A tad outspoken ;) i am looking forward to participating and learning new perspectives!

I am a severe manic depressive, so be prepared for occasional bouts of weirdness. When *I* go on Mr Toad's Wild Ride, it lasts 8 to 10 weeks.

Thank you for your kind thoughts, but I am bulletproof as regards mental illness, childhood abuse and other topics. I trumpet them in fact. Someone in the know (at least from my personal experience) has to speak up on the topics. Raise awareness where the opportunity presents.

I am new to this forum but not fora in general. I have haunted Delphi for years. There are plenty of petty or abusive nutjobs there.

I only take offence from people whose opinions I respect. Other are "just Spam in a can, boy".

But again thanks for your advice, and the spirit in which it was offered. I don't cry or lose my rag easily.  ;)

Example:

I feel complete with Depression. I do not try to supress it with Alcohol, Drugs or Anti-stimulants. I allow the Depression to take me down into the deep, dark, 'abyss' within my self and allow the abyss to look into me. Depression brings about 'clarity' that happiness would otherwise hide.
My favourite joke when working in Psyche wards with my surgical blue uniform was "...and you think you're feeling 'blue'.", which always resulted in a warm smile both via the mouth and the eyes from the patients.
Buddhists have been able to 'enlighten' up their right frontal lobe which releases a sense of happiness or euphoria ...naturally. This was proven via MIR/CT scanning methods. The Nirvana state has been recorded at 17% above the normal so far.
Me, I prefer to activate my left frontal lobe. Like I said, Depression brings Clarity.
Some people can live with it, some people can't.

Bipolar mania is (for me) a ten week free cocaine experience. You feel like Superman. Invincible, brilliant, charming, witty, charismatic... (The last is not a delusion, I seem to have no difficulty talking people into going along with the strangest of schemes.) I write a lot of text and music too, one feels very creative.

But you spend too much money (so I guess it's not exactly a FREE cocaine ride) and can say and do things that are hideously embarassing and cringe-making when you come down. But all in all, I look forward to it, as bipolar depression is the pits, and the cocktail of chemicals I am on keep me from ever feeling very bad, but also from feeling very good (mood stabilizers).

Dr Seuss was drug enhanced, as too was C.S.Lewis, Stephen King, Ernest Hemmingway, along with a many number of 'Artisssstz' and 'Musos'. I guess its a 'poor' compensation for what they originally lack. Some people like trying to chase after their weaknesses.
Most people see through the facade ...the illusion (and you don't need a Psyche Degree to see this) that is generated by 'drug/alcohol' enhancements and the benefits for the person using the enhancement is mostly 'short-term' effect.
I guess its hard on the Ego to admit to oneself, that one has travelled down a 'dead end'.

By all means, do your 'Coke' for whatever reason you see fit. Just don't expect everyone else to 'deal' with it.
I remember when I worked Traffic Control and one obnoxious fool threatened me with the fact that he was 'Bi-Polar' (as to is the UK: they don't know if they are a part of the USA or Europe ::)).
"So what." I replied "I don't care. You *F* around with me, the job at hand and I'll drop ya."
Six weeks later he kept up his 'Bi-Polar' excuse and I eventually had to drop him. Although we were both sacked, everyone praised me for getting rid of a twat.

I think Cocaine allows a person to bowl some pretty fast balls down the Cricket pitch, but they are always mostly 'wide' and 'no-balled'.

Don't mind reporting that I helped vote Howard in and very happy to report that I helped vote him out. Have also voted Greens and I think even independant at some stage. Post 1975, I swore I wouldn't vote for Libs while Fraser was boss and didn't. Afraid I'm having to do the same while Phoney Tony is in charge.

...I'm still stuck out here in the Riverina. I must say that I'm really impressed with all the Irrigation (M.I.A) that goes on out here and how WATER is far more important a commodity than gold. Put it this way, although they don't have Water Restrictions out here like the Lake Maquarie region - they do have 'Water Wars'.  :o Yeah, its pretty full-on with control of Water out here.
Other than that, I got shafted from my possible $1,000 a day job by a bully American Company. They only used me to get rid of the Australian Contractors and then gave me the flick for 'cheaper' foreigners brought in on backpacker visas. Well, I work in a Mill now. Not to bad.
Upon a personal level, my marriage is kaput because I fell in love with someone else. Isn't it always the way that the 'right' person appears 'after' one gets married. Well that 'right' person is gone too. So I'm all alone now - with the visits to see my daughter at least. Maybe she'll come back ...maybe she won't ??
Anyway, thats me in a nutshell ...now that I'm back.

I'm basically clueless about politics at the moment, but I'm entering Year 11 this year and taking 3/4 Legal Studies, so I thought I'd join the community here. I probably won't post much though, since I somehow never seem to be active on any forums. What can I say? I'm lazy, and if I do get around to posting, most of it will end up being silly political questions. :P Oh well, hi anyway!

Hi Ardente. My niece is just starting year 11 and is doing legal studies too. She hopes to do a law unit at university next year along with her year 12 - lots of hard work ahead. All the best with it.

Politics and Law are from the same 'family tree' and you will find this Forum of interest ...and entertainment. Also - Year 11 is the important year, more so than Year 12. You 'learn' in Year 11 and show that you have 'learned it' in Year 12.

I'm no hard supporter of any party. I describe my political views as more "classical Liberalism". So naturally I dislike the Liberal Party and Tony Abbott greatly.

I'm new so you're welcome to my opinions, both of them.
One is politically incorrect so it's all balanced.

Ex-Liberal voter, currently Labour/Greens voter, will not ever like to see Greens in complete control, ditto an Abbott government (the most Americanised/Republican Liberal Party I've yet seen). I'd describe myself as a left-leaning centrist (in the current climate, during the 60s and 70s, bar a few issues, I'd be called right-leaning). Here to observe the right-ward shift of the centre of politics in Australia and amuse myself with it (until it becomes depressing reality).

I'd like to think minds could be changed (including my own) given sound arguments that don't rely on false information, sloganeering or op-shop rhetoric. Though I don't hold out much hope of logic ever truly overcoming emotive, visceral response, one can always hope. Wish I could drag politics kicking and screaming back to the centre, but with banks running the economy and therefore the world, I see everything being skewed in their and their shareholders (read: their rich depositors) interests from now till they can't get away with it anymore (when everyone realises we've gone back to the conditions of serfdoms).

Likes: reading, writing, drawing, cooking, cricket, being gay (I await arguments that use this as a basis for disqualification of my opinion).

Dislikes: Boxing (two sweaty men in underwear, you'd think I'd love it, but oddly no), high-pitched noises, Orwellian tactics/Newspeak, commercial television, Facebook/Twitter/any other MyFace, LifeJournal, EverythingAboutMeThatNoOneCaresAbout(WithPICTURES!) social networking monstrosity.

My first impressions (could be wrong) are that this is dominated by right and far-right posters, so bring em on!
