Ukraine is not going to drive the Russians out of Eastern Ukraine (40% ethnic Russians, even higher is larger cities) or the Crimea (70% ethnic Russinas i the cities). Russia, even if it conquers the whole of Ukraine, would have a captive people who would be more trouble  than benefit to Russia. The cost of rebuilding alone would make a complete conquest pointless. Russia cannot swallow OR spit out Ukraine now. The Soviet Union was attacked by Germany in June 1941. By June 1945 the Red army was in Berlin. Russia has advanced what? 150kms into Ukraine in 4 years? What the **** is going on over there?? Why would Ukraine flirt with becoming a NATO member, knowing how that that would be treated as a threat by Russia? What is the cause of this war and what do each want? Why not stop the shooting and start talking? After all, they know each other better than anyone knows them. The EU should work on cease fire, not the continuation of a pointless, idiotic war between virtually indistinguishable peoples. The Europeans are as useless as they were duing the Balkan wars which were also between virtually indistingushable poeples. European NATO without the Americans is a toothless, timid, shabby tiger in drag. Ukraine is actually holding Russian forces in many places and even pushing them back in some. Most people are saying that it’s essentially a stalemate right now. The thing is that Ukrainian forces are inflicting massive amounts of casualties on Russian forces, so much so that they’re turning to conscripts and North Korean soldiers. It seems that Ukraine is more than holding their own against a much larger force. Good on them. Yeah... and? Russia is not conquering Ukraine. Ukraine is not expelling Russia. So now they are hitting each other over the head, as they have been for 4 years, without getting anywhere. Stalemate - if has been a stalemate for most of the 4 years of this war. And it's not going anywhere else. Russia is too weak as is Ukraine. Nobody knows what this is about other than Slavic stupidity. Are you suggesting that Ukraine just give up, let Russia keep the territory it has invaded and wait for the next time Putin invades? I do not believe that this war came out of the blue.

I do not think either that one side is entirely innocent and the other is entirely responsible.

I think the Russians, as Bismarck observed, will respond to anything with unexpected stupidity. They are Serbs in that regard. I don't think Ukrainians are distinguishable from Russians.

Expanding NATO into what was the Warsaw pact was provocative but those nations were really not Russian/Soviet so there was an understandable desire to be protected from the ex-Soviet Union. Flirting with Ukraine joining NATO was a leap too far.

Ukraine treats it's various minorities badly. The Russian Ukrainian animosity is mystery to me as I don't think of them as different people. They evidently do. They are indistinguishable in their corruption and self- mythologising.  Why they can't talk to each other is, to me, a sign of unfathomable stupidity on both sides.

First of all, NATO is a defensive alliance. It doesn't go around invading other countries, and never has. The same cannot be said of Russia, especially under Putin. So the excuse that NATO expansion is reason for Russia to invade Ukraine is absolute nonsense and just plain stupid. Second, you didn't answer my question. What would you have done on the day Putin ordered his forces to invade Ukraine? Would you have ordered Ukrainian forces to fight, or surrender?

In the three days following Trump's unilateral announcement of a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia on targeting energy facilities, Putin struck Ukrainian energy facilities 76 times and killed 11 civilians. During that time, Zelensky didn't once strike a Russian energy facility even though he was never told of any ceasefire agreement because none existed except in Trump's depraved mind. So now Zelensky has had enough and resumed strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, as he should. Trump really shows what a dumbass he is when he says Zelensky doesn't want the war to end. Once again, you're twisting history to try to make it conform with your point of view. NATO got involved in the Bosnian War to stop mass atrocities, enforce United Nations (UN) resolutions, and bring about a peace settlement. NATO's role was to enforce UN sanctions and embargos, establish and enforce a no-fly zone to stop aircraft bombing ground targets, and protect UN safe areas. So it wasn't a case of NATO going and doing it's own thing - it got involved specifically at the request of the UN Security Council from a series of UN resolutions to stop Serbian ethnic cleansing.

The Europeans and the UN were totally useless. The Srebrenica massacre occured while UN peacekeepers looked on.
It was the US and UK who finally had enough and expressly bypassed the UN and its Security Council, and brought the Serbs to heel. It was mainly US ( the vast majority, over 60%), UK and French planes, European NATO contribution being not getting in the way and kveching about actual decisive action (which is what they usually have been doing).
