This is how Albo is looking after aged care patients:

Aged care residents face bills for TVs, hot breakfasts and soft drinks under new fees

14th Oct.  2026

updated about 6h ago

Although rooms at Uniting's The Marion can cost up to $1.3 million as a deposit,
and residents can pay tens of thousands in fees every year,
families were told they would have to pay $8.80 a day, or $3,200 a year,
if they wanted a free-to-air TV in their room.

I wonder what would happen if residents had their own TV or family members got one for them?

"Not allowed" would be my guess.

Disgraceful stuff.

$8.80 a day, or $3,200 a year for "Free-to-air" TV?

Could only happen in Australia.

I wouldn't let them pay me $8.80 a day to watch the rubbish on FTA TV these days.

Like wolves - they go after easy prey - the old, the sick  -

and the politicians don't care.

It's a jungle out there.

Communist Bobby doesn't like capitalism.

If olds don't want to pay their way ... move, and let others in.

This is about Capitalism Bobby, not Albo.

There are limits -

$8.80 a day, or $3,200 a year for "Free-to-air" TV?

Free free to air is a human right now ?

Businesses are driven by profit. Olds are their cash cows. What don't you understand about capitalism ?

They probably voted rightwing all their life.

Reap what you sow.

For the olds who can't afford free to air.

John Howard’s 1997 Aged Care Act is widely cited as a primary driver of Australia’s aged care crisis, as it deregulated the sector and removed mandatory staffing requirements.

Commie Bobby started this thread complaining about the cost of televisions in a private business sector

Commie Bobby shows his red colours.

Commie Bobby, did you vote for Howard, and his deregulation of nursing homes around 1997 ?

Another video for the hard right voting olds, who now can't pay their way.

even if they are millionaires - they take it all.

Old right wingers, didn't they opposed voluntary euthanasia. If they hadn't, they could of had cash when they exited. Now it's pauper’s graves for them all.

Poor poor old people. They voted election after election, for a harder, colder world ... and they got it.

Still, they are not happy.

They take 85% of their pension as it is!  >:(

As someone on FB noted ... even prisoners get TV for free.

The most time I have spent in an aged care facility is about 2 weeks. What I found in that short amount of time is that aged care residents are fascinated by what they see on television. It is what they have known for the last 50 years, at least.

Whatever is costing $3000 a year is too much. I bought a high-definition television that hooked into the entire network of channels about 2 years ago. The television cost me $450. It does not cost $3000 to have your television hooked up to an antenna.

In many parts of Melbourne TV will work with rabbit ears antennas -
no external antenna required.

It's just wolves going after easy prey - old people -
and taking everything they've got without mercy.

I live in Rockhampton. 36 years ago, we got 4 channels. 5 if you could get some sort of specialised antenna for getting sbs. Two years ago, I got a television that could hook up to the internet and link into all kinds of television channels. I cannot imagine Melbourne being so backwards that you cannot hook into at least 30 channels.

We have over 25 free to air TV channels in Melbourne.

Most of them are crap - I don't watch much TV.

I installed a couple of new internet-based channels last night. Not really a problem when it comes to hooking up to free-to-air. Why any old person wants to hook up to many channels when their attention spans lack more than a few options per day, is beyond me.

https://johnmenadue.com/post/2026/02/how-john-howard-reshaped-australia-not-for-the-better/

Howard’s policies made for great inequality and intergenerational unfairness.

...

On the other side of the coin, was Howard’s contraction of government help to those who needed it most – the aged (kerosene baths in privatised nursing homes), toddlers (privatised, poorly regulated childcare), the sick (trashed Medicare), the unemployed (frozen benefits), students (huge funding boosts for elite private schools and higher HECS debts), and consumers (regulators defanged).

...

Howard was the worst Prime Minister in Australia’s history. At least Billy McMahon had the ineptitude to do nothing, rather than using astute political artistry to dress up policies as favouring “battlers”, but in reality, making life easier for the wealthy by imposing on the broad mass of the Australian people the rotten fruits of a malignant ideology.

It's 100% the fault of all the voters who voted the Howard mob.

TV is good for watching sports free to air -

especially international Rugby, Rugby League, soccer and cricket.

ABC 24 news is a reasonable channel to catch up on the news.
