Title: Nobel Peace Prize goes to… not Trump! Post by Armchair_Politician on Oct 9th, 2026 at 8:30pm
I’d hate to be around Trump tonight. Not only did he again get overlooked for the Nobel Peace Prize, it went to a woman - a black woman. I can just see Trump and his petulant dummy spit proclaiming, “it should be me, it’s not fair, I ended 8 wars!”. He really is the ultimate sore loser.

2026 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Navi Pillay
“We concluded that the State of Israel is responsible for the commission of four genocidal acts in Gaza with the specific intent to destroy Palestinians in Gaza, as such,” she declared in a presentation to the UN General Assembly. She also declared Israel’s president, prime minister and former defence minister had “incited the commission” of genocide. She currently sits on the International Court of Justice in the case in which Myanmar stands accused of genocide. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/10/9/2026-nobel-peace-prize-awarded-to-navi-pillay Excellent choice. |

Speaking of clapping ...
Upon winning the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, South African jurist Navi Pillay joked to a cheering crowd in Nuremberg, "If you clap a little bit more I may share this prize with Trump." and in other news ... Israel's still genocidal. |

Just like aquascoot, Frank thinks everything is a popularity contest. A little lesson for them both: The committee selects individuals or organizations based on Alfred Nobel’s 1895 will, which honors those who have done the most for: • Fraternity between nations • The abolition or reduction of standing armies • The holding and promotion of peace congresses • Peace-building, human rights, and arms control It has absolutely nothing to do with popularity. However, we all know the real reasons Frank is upset about the winner: skin colour and gender. |

Obviously I took no part in the deliberations of the committee that made this decision, but I can't imagine they gave Trump any serious consideration for this prestigious award given his deplorable actions over the past two years. His actions are everything the award is not about. |

I fully and unequivocally supported Israel after the deplorable attack by Hamas on October 7. But, the actions of Israel since then have gone far beyond what is reasonable or necessary. Israeli settlers are now booting Palestinians from their own homes and laying claim to land that is not theirs while Israel turns a blind eye. I get that Israel lives under constant threat from Hamas, but taking it out on innocent Palestinian civilians is not the answer. Those poor people are just innocent victims stuck between Hamas and Israel. I agree that Israel's actions amount to genocide and Netanyahu does belong in prison for what he has done and continues to do. He's just gone way too far, simple as that. |

Trump wants a Nobel Peace Prize because he stopped 8 wars:
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c5y3599gx4qo How many wars has President Trump really ended? 15 October 2025 President Trump has claimed that he has "ended 8 wars in just 8 months" in a social media post with the title "the president of peace". His latest addition to his list of wars "ended" is the two-year conflict between Israel and Hamas. The other seven were between Israel and Iran, Pakistan and India, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Thailand and Cambodia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Serbia and Kosovo. A number of these conflicts lasted just days, although they were the result of long-standing tensions - and one of them had no fighting to end. It is also unclear whether some of the peace agreements will last. BBC Verify has taken a closer look at the conflicts and how much credit the president can take for ending them. |

Title: Re: Nobel Peace Prize goes to… not Trump! Post by Armchair_Politician on Oct 11th, 2026 at 9:07am
Trump’s eight-item list is either total nonsense or clearly flawed:
1) Trump said again Friday that one of the wars he settled was “Egypt and Ethiopia over the dam.” But Egypt and Ethiopia didn’t fight any war over the major Ethiopian dam project that is opposed by Egypt; rather, they have had a long-running diplomatic dispute on the issue. Their relations remain tense. 2) Trump’s list also includes some sort of supposed situation between “Kosovo and Serbia,” but they too were not at war during his presidency. In neither the rally speech nor the social media post did the president explain what he was talking about. 3) Trump claimed in the speech that he settled a war between Rwanda and “the Democrat Republic of the Congo.” (He referred to the Democratic Republic of Congo using the pejorative shortening of “Democratic” usually deployed by critics of the Democratic Party.) But the war involving Rwanda and the DRC has not ended despite a peace agreement, brokered by the Trump administration last year, that was not signed by the M23 rebel group. 4) Trump claimed he settled a war between Israel and Hamas. But Israel has continued to conduct frequent attacks in Gaza, saying it is targeting Hamas, in the year since the October 2025 ceasefire in which the Trump administration was a key player. 5) Trump said, as he has since last summer, that he settled the June 2025 conflict between Israel and Iran. That boast made more sense before February 2026, when Israel joined the Trump-led US in going to war with Iran. Trump seemed at least a little tentative in the Friday speech when he got to this item on the list, saying, “Israel and Iran – in a sense, because Iran is – we’ve wiped out their nuclear capacity, totally wiped it out.” Three items on the list are more solid, though people can reasonably debate the importance of Trump himself and his broader administration. Leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan have credited Trump for his involvement in a significant deal last year that moved the countries toward ending their prolonged Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. At least some experts said Trump played a significant part in achieving a ceasefire in a July 2025 border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, though the clashes flared up again in December before another truce. And Trump is right that Pakistan’s prime minister has enthusiastically highlighted Trump’s role in ending a deadly 2025 conflict with India, though Trump didn’t mention that India’s government has denied Trump was a factor. But Trump keeps claiming he “settled eight wars” or “ended eight wars,” not that he settled or ended three wars. And the majority of the eight either definitely or probably shouldn’t be on the list. Trump’s other false or dubious claims In the Friday speech and social media post, Trump also rattled off a laundry list of other foreign policy assertions he claimed bolster his Nobel case; we won’t go through them all. But some of them were false or dubious, too. “I did eight (wars). No president’s ever done any,” Trump falsely claimed, ignoring various wars other US presidents have settled by winning them or by brokering peace agreements. For one, Theodore Roosevelt won the Nobel in 1906 for his role in an agreement ending a war between the Russian and Japanese empires. “And I also, by the way, got Greenland. I hope you’re happy about that,” Trump said in the speech. But while he did secure a new US agreement with Denmark that modestly expands US rights in Greenland, the deal leaves the territory firmly under Danish sovereignty. It’s also not clear why it would have helped Trump’s Nobel case if he had actually pressured a European ally into giving up territory, but we digress. Seeking peace prize credit for the Iran war he started, Trump said in the speech, “With Iran, I stopped them from destroying Israel, the Middle East, and Europe, and probably a piece of the United States before we obliterated them.” While it’s impossible to definitively fact-check this hypothetical, there is no proof Iran had planned or could have realistically achieved this kind of destruction. And in both the speech and the social media post, Trump declared that he is “about to settle” the war between Russia and Ukraine; he claimed in the post that this supposed coming resolution, like a resolution to the Iran war, is “happening at breakneck speed.” The Nobel Committee, and others, could be forgiven for extreme skepticism. Trump promised during his 2024 campaign that he would end this war either as president-elect or within 24 hours of returning to office – in January 2025, more than 20 months ago. https://edition.cnn.com/2026/10/10/politics/trump-nobel-prize-eight-wars |

Unlike the committees that award the other Nobel prizes, which are drawn from Sweden’s learned institutions, the peace prize committee is appointed on a party-political basis by the Norwegian parliament. Politics is not incidental to the process; it is encrusted in its nature.
Nor is it a coincidence that the committee that awarded Pillay the prize is chaired by Jørgen Watne Frydnes, the Labour appointee whose term ends in December. A longstanding critic of Israel, which he considers an “apartheid state”, Frydnes called the accidental killing in Gaza of Al Jazeera “journalists” (who moonlighted as terrorists) a “grotesque attack on the freedom of expression”. Crowning his chairmanship by canonising Pillay can only enhance Frydnes’ adulation by Norway’s vehemently anti-Israel left. The underlying issue, however, is neither Frydnes nor Pillay. Both are symptoms of a broader disease: the chronic abuse of the term “genocide”. Centuries ago, Francis Bacon warned about the “shoddy and inept application of words which lays siege to the intellect”. In the case of “genocide”, the siege began at the word’s birth. Henry Ergas |
