Title: Congrats to the passengers on flydubai
Post by Captain Nemo on Oct 1st, 2026 at 10:51am
Very lucky to have the pilot who was under attack by the first officer being able to unlock the cockpit door.

Very well done to the passengers who decided to take on the attacker.  8-)

It really is great to see members of the public deciding to act rather than cowering down.

How lucky was it to have had other pilots on board as passengers?!

Yaniv Hayoun says he learned how to pull the plane out of a nosedive by watching a Canadian documentary series.

The plane’s captain, Indian national Smit Machchhar, made a crucial decision that saved the flight. He unlocked the cockpit door before the worst of his wounds took effect.

Smells like another Israel False Flag.

Claim someone's a terrorist and attack him. Get others on board involved. Use the false flag to gain votes.

Nice theory. Can you prove it?

From what little I know of the incident, the plane plummeted quite a distance at quite an angle of descent. Are you able to take control of the plane, level it out, whilst some guy trying to kill you fights off passengers that have come to your aid?

Being stabbed and casually meander past the attacking person, unlocking the door, letting in 2 waiting pilots.

The pilot gets stabbed and the co-pilot tries to crash the plane -- as is the allegation. I am not disagreeing that it sounds far-fetched that the pilot was able to unlock the cabin door and let people (who were previously subjected to a diving plane) be let entry into the cockpit to deal with the co-pilot. But the alternative theory is to entertain the idea that the co-pilot was innocent, the pilot stabbed himself and then went about letting in passengers to subdue the co-pilot.

So far, the official story seems to be the most credible.

Gees, who would've thought that a co-pilot would be a radical suicidal loony?  Well me - cos any musso pilot has the potential to be a radical suicidal jihadi murderer.

And what luck to have not one, but two pilots onboard!  And the passengers also did their bit.  Definitely the Israeli plumber who pulled the plane out of a nosedive and managed that feat because he said he watched ‘Air Crash Investigations.’

I can imagine the absolute relief when they landed.  God trumps Allah.

As Pilot Gyorgy Peto, who is also a former aviation journalist said, the landing of this plane made "the landing on the Hudson like a walk in the park".

Well personally I prefer not to fly anywhere these days. But if I do, I wonder if we're allowed to request the religion of the pilots who will be flying us to our destination?  Didn't think so.

I'm surprised the slow uptake of low cost homemade (ai) drones, for bringing down civil aviation. Bankrupting all airlines flying in/out of destinations such as Israel would be a piece of Ugat Biskvitim.

Lot easier than faking an attempted suicide highjacking.

I've had enough flying training to bring a plane to straight and level - but would need advice to be able to fly it for any time and put it down.  No idea of the cockpit instruments on such a liner, but the basics are pretty simple.

Israel Hayom reports that following a brawl and bloodshed between pilots from Oman and the UAE, two off-duty pilots who were on board—one originally from Russia and the other from Ukraine—took the controls.

They managed to stabilize the aircraft and land it in Saudi Arabia.

Omani national Hamam al-Hammami, who used a cockpit crash axe to try to kill Captain Smit Machchhar, also told investigators in the United Arab Emirates he planned to carry out the attack in July but cancelled at the last minute, Israeli media reports.

Hammami said he intended to murder Captain Smit Machchhar behind the locked cockpit door then continue flying to Tel Aviv so he could receive landing clearances without raising suspicion. He would then crash the plane into one of the Azrieli towers, three blocks close to Israel’s Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv which are also the tallest buildings in Israel.

This was apparently why Hammami waited until the plane was over Jordan before he tried to take control. Ynet reports that if he couldn’t make it to Israel, he planned to crash the plane into a US military base in Jordan.

In the event, his plot was foiled by Captain Machchhar, who despite being badly injured managed to kick the cockpit door open, allowing passengers to storm in, immobilise the co-pilot and take back control of the plane before two off-duty pilots flew it safely to land in Saudi Arabia.

Captain Machchhar told Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, that Hammami had asked to pray minutes before he struck him with a “big blow” to the head.

At first, Captain Machchhar believed the plane been hit, but then, he said, “the blows kept coming. I realised that it’s not the aircraft, it’s the other guy who was in the cockpit with me.”

Confusing stories coming out -
I wouldn't read too much into any of it as yet -

the first reports were saying that the terrorist pilot smuggled a knife on board -
later reports say no - he used the axe inside the cockpit -
that axe would kill even a lion with one blow so -
so there is no way the pilot could be alive after being
struck multiple times with that axe -
nothing is making sense.

Other reports say the airliner dived 17,000 feet in 2 minutes
and then pulled out of the dive -
a commercial airliner couldn't do that -
that is something only a military fighter jet could do.

Google AI:

Quote:
The Dive:
The aircraft plummeted at a peak rate near 34,000 feet per minute,
dropping from 34,000 feet down to roughly 16,600 feet.
The extreme dive cut power to the cabin, subjected passengers to intense negative G-forces,
and pushed the airframe beyond its structural speed limits, ripping off part of the plane's rudder.

And then the 2 spare pilots on board would have had to land and steer the plane with no rudder.
That is a hell of a job as you have to adjust the engine power on one wing
to steer - very difficult to land like that -
you'd have to be one of the best pilots on the world and very lucky.

My bet is that the jet's frame was so over stressed that it is
a write off that could never be flown again.

Maybe you're confused because you took notice of fake news instead of waiting to hear what happened.

The info i had cast doubt on knife airport security is pretty tight.

Planes can dive fast the plane might not be rated for it doesn't mean it can't do it.
There is no reason for it to cut power to cabin and no reports mention this happening.
There is no evidence of negative Gs you can dive without that happening.
Google AI is wrong AI isn't perfect still has a way to go.

It reached 600 knots in dive about 100 knots faster than Vne (Velocity never exceed) might explain why rudder ripped off some pilots are saying lucky he didn't rip the tail off the plane.
Every plane has limitations on flight envelope if you exceed them it can damage plane.

They can fly it in without a rudder they have instrument called turn coordinator it has a trackball to let them know if they need rudder correction to straighten up from yaw angle.
They bank it to turn then use rudder to correct yaw angle which might be very small adjustment.
Some light planes and gliders  don't have this instrument might have a piece of string in front of windscreen if it's flowing straight back down centreline of plane it doesn't need rudder correction, if it's flowing to right of centreline might need a little left rudder to straighten it up.
Look at black ball on bottom left pic that has to be centred

Some planes have differential braking which means left and right brakes are independent they use this to steer on the ground.

They flew it in without a rudder textbook landing.

If they do steeper banked turns then a little rudder is required not so much for slower turns.

I have flown light aircraft have you?

Baron,

They can fly it in without a rudder they have instrument called turn coordinator it has a trackball to let them know if they need rudder correction to straighten up from yaw angle.
They bank it to turn then use rudder to correct yaw angle which might be very small adjustment.

How can you say in one sentence - without a rudder -
and in the next sentence say - use rudder?

Have you been drinking?

They flew it in without a rudder textbook landing.

If they do steeper banked turns then a little rudder is required not so much for slower turns.

I have flown light aircraft have you?

Yes - I have  flown a Cessna -
it was easier than learning to drive a car with a manual clutch.

‘Confidential’ email from RMIT university on Hamam Al-Hammami revealed

Lucy Carroll and Mohammad Alfares

Flydubai co-pilot Hamam al-Hammam, who allegedly wanted to plunge the airliner into the Azrieli towers near Israel’s Kirya military headquarters.

The co-pilot who allegedly tried to hijack a Flydubai flight and crash it into an Israeli skyscraper enrolled in a bachelor of mechanical engineering for two years at RMIT University and failed to complete his degree, as counter-terrorism forces investigate whether he was radicalised on Australian soil.

In a “confidential update” sent to the university’s leadership team on Monday, acting vice chancellor Catherine Itsiopoulos confirmed RMIT was collaborating with the Victorian Joint Counter Terrorism Team over the enrolment of 29-year-old Omani national Hamam Al-Hammami.

Al-Hammami was enrolled at RMIT between 2015 and 2017 but failed to complete an undergraduate bachelor of engineering (mechanical engineering) degree before leaving the university.

“I want to provide a confidential update on a matter that you may have read about in the media over the weekend related to a former student and the Flydubai flight incident,” Professor Itsiopoulos wrote in the internal email obtained by The Australian.

“The individual was enrolled at RMIT between 2015 and 2017 and did not successfully complete any undergraduate qualification with RMIT,” she wrote.

“RMIT has been collaborating with the Victorian Joint Counter Terrorism Team (AFP, Victoria Police & ASIO) with their investigation and importantly, there is no security threat to RMIT.”

The confirmation links Australia to one of the most potentially severe aviation terror plots since the 9/11 attacks.

New Zealand is also looking into Al-Hammami’s education history, with senior police telling The Australian they were investigating his time in the country

NZ Police Assistant Commissioner Michael Johnson told The Australian his force was aware the accused terrorist had also spent time in NZ.

“Police are aware the co-pilot spent time in New Zealand, and we are looking into the time he spent here, alongside other agencies where appropriate, Mr Johnson told The Australian.

Al-Hammami, who used a cockpit crash axe to attack Captain Smit Machchhar mid-flight, told UAE interrogators he joined Flydubai to target Tel Aviv.

His planned trajectory was to execute the captain over Jordan, obtain landing clearance without raising suspicion, and plunge the airliner into the Azrieli towers near Israel’s Kirya military headquarters.

During the struggle inside the cockpit on flight FZ1073, al-Hammami disengaged the engines and forced the plane into a 16,000-foot dive before the wounded captain kicked open the cockpit door. Passengers then stormed the flight deck, restrained al-Hammami, and safely landed the aircraft in Saudi Arabia.

Australian counter-terrorism investigators are now scrutinising al-Hammami’s two-year tenure in Melbourne to determine if he established extremist contacts or began his path to radicalisation while enrolled at RMIT.

The former RMIT student, who lived in Syria during the civil war, had previously posted online messages in support of al-Qaeda and was barred from flying by Omani authorities due to extremist concerns — which has raised questions over how he bypassed aviation vetting protocols to co-pilot commercial passenger jets.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered a total security overhaul of foreign civil aviation entering Israeli airspace as federal agents in Australia continue tracing al-Hammami’s movements and network during his time in Victoria.

Authorities have refused to publicly enlarge on any of the terrorist’s Australian links, which emerged among details from a LinkedIn page where he is said the have attended an Australian university.
It remains unclear whether he travelled interstate.

Last week a spokesperson for the AFP said the JCTT is investigating the man’s links to Australia and “an update will be provided at an appropriate time.”

Despite being banned by state carrier Oman Air from flying, sent to a deradicalisation program and sent to a desk job due to his interests in radical ideology, concerns were not raised more broadly, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

According to the WSJ, Israel’s Ministry of Transportation, which oversees foreign carriers, did not vet the Flydubai flight crew, saying FlyDubai agreed in writing to check its pilots’ backgrounds and nationalities.

Security experts told the WSJ the failures on all front was remarkable, given the surveillance and intelligence capabilities of the United Arab Emirates and Israel.

“If this was a dedicated jihadist terror attack, there are multiple levels of failure that happened from an intelligence perspective way before we get to the fact that someone may have missed something in security screening,” Matthew Borie, chief intelligence officer and co-founder of Osprey Flight Solutions, said.

My family was flying in NZ in a light aircraft (18 passengers or so) when the rudder cable snapped.  :o

It took a while for the pilot to make the turn back to the airport but he managed it very well.

We all transferred to another similar aircraft to complete the scenic flight and all was fine with that one.  8-)

That's appalling - someone should have gone to jail for criminal negligence.

It must have been overdue for replacement.

and it is broadcast on live TV all around the world.

I guess thats before the alleged freely and publicly state what actually occurred.

These bloodthirsty fascists who oppose due process.

We know what happened -
he stabbed the pilot and tried to crash the plane.

And managed to fight back and open the cockpit door to get people to help subdue the co-pilot, even though the plane went into a steep dive. The conspiracy theories seem to hold credibility that this was a false flag.
