Title: Rising fuel prices. Post by Sophia on Sep 29th, 2026 at 9:00pm
This was in front Herald Sun newspaper today.
As if it’s not bad enough minimising peoples finances. And I’m so pizzed off as I can see how it’s affecting my kids generation (Millennials) it pains me. Yes we help out our kids a bit but we need to survive all the high cost of bills too!! Taking us for fuels. Jim blames war & oil prices but ignores his runaway spending Treasurer Jim Chalmers is under fresh fire for blaming the war in the Middle East and surging fuel prices for fuelling inflation, while ignoring runaway government spending as the Reserve Bank prepares to slug households with another rate rise today. 0E179364-B805-460B-B46C-437553633A63.jpeg (148 KB | 3

I changed my front tyres and had a wheel alignment on my car. The fuel efficiency must have improved 25%, and my speedometer matches my actual speed.
The other day, I put in some of the petrol injection cleaner. Then I filled up the car with $80 worth (from 1/8th full to full) $2.40/L. The car had been running somewhat rough. Being not mechanically-minded, I just thought that it might be worth a go to get the vehicle running smoothly in a few days time. The car started up nicely and ran with a bit more power (although only slightly better). I was under the impression that the injector clean takes a few hours at least to improve performance. |

Iran would probably have to elect a few new political leaders, if they dared to push the world into war. You would be renaming the area the "Radiation Zone of Persia".

Wheel alignment isn't going to make any difference with economy if car wasn't pulling hard to left or right. If car was pulling left or right perhaps something is worn or bent in suspension from kerbs or potholes. Australian Design Rules for speedo says speedo must read higher than actual speed so when doing 100kph indicated it might only be actual 93-98 Kph. The new tyres probably have slightly larger diameter due to not being worn out which probably accounts for difference if using GPS to calculate speed. Injector cleaner is a waste of money better off keeping fuel filter replacements up to service intervals. Fuel filter is more likely to clog up reducing fuel flow than injectors getting clogged up in which case injector cleaner isn't doing anything to fix that. To properly clean injectors they must be removed from car placed in a machine that squirts fuel down injectors then individually records fuel flow from each injector into a tube. It's common for new injectors same type to have flow difference of 1-3%. Modern cars have O2 sensor in exhaust they run in closed loop where it continually gives feedback to ECU if injector is slightly clogged (very rare) then ECU will notice car is running slightly lean and increase pulse width to injector to squirt more fuel. |

That was a very detailed response, Baron. Thank you.
The wheel alignment did correct the issue of fuel efficiency. I might drive 200km per week and refuel every week. But, recently, the wheel alignment made it possible that I fuel the car every 10 days. I still do the same amount of driving. I am aware of the fact that speedometers show a higher reading than the speed that you are actually doing. But, I drove passed a radar speed sign that displayed my vehicle's speed to be 5kmh slower than what it read on the speedometer. After the wheel alignment, the radar read my vehicle doing 2kmh slower than what my speedometer showed. The mechanic that did my car's service over 6 months ago said that my car "needs a lot of loving". He told me that there were a few broken pieces that needs replacing if I want the car to run smoothly. But, apart from those issues, the car was running quite well. I would not risk driving the car to Brisbane at all. And the trip to Gladstone to exorcise my navigational demons might not go ahead. |

Saudis never attacked Iran they didn't let Trump use base there to attack Iran. Iran attacked Saudis first and still threatening them today. Saudis have 10 X military budget of Israel so why can't they achieve anything like Israel does? Gulf Arabs don't have a work ethic. Fuel prices have gone up because Yemen attacked Saudi pipeline that bypassed straight of Hormuz. The Yemen Saudi war started under Obama it was the Saudis who broke ceasefire nothing to do with Trump. Iran isn't exporting oil haven't for over a month their oil wasn't going to the west anyway due to sanctions. |

Baron, you totally missed my point. Iran is using blackmail - they can destroy Saudi Arabia in hours: water desalination plants, oil refineries and infrastructure. Iran can set it all on fire - no one will be able to live there and oil prices will skyrocket - same for Bahrain, UAE and Kuwait - all the Gulf states - the USA can't protect themselves yet alone all the Gulf. |

The Yemen-Saudi war seemed to end with the Saudis putting sanctions against the Yemeni people. Correct me if I am wrong. One of the features of these sanctions were the blocking of food and medical aid into Yemen. We were confronted by pictures of malnourished children.
Chances are, maybe the Saudis are reluctant to starve out the Yemeni people again. |

And so there it is. Our inflation is 4% due to higher fuel prices!
Nothing to do with us peons over spending thus, interest rate rise followed! And then it looks like people are overspending when it’s the banks making the profit! There needs to be two inflation accounts. One for the people, one for the government spending. |

Yemeni authorities have announced a general mobilization amidst a new offensive by the Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, called on citizens to join government forces and declared the need to restore state control over Sana'a and other territories. He had previously announced an amnesty for Houthis willing to defect to the government side, as well as a monetary reward for such defectors. |

Riddle me this:
If this war/unrest has caused fuel prices to rise, why is our local bowser price $2.40 per litre in Australia, but $1.67 (au) per litre in the USA. Big effin difference. Are we of the same war/universe? |

Impossible, your speedo is either mechanichally driven if your car is old or read via magnetic pulses on the the axles/driveshaft, i.e. off mechanical moving parts. Nothing changed, it's your imagination which has been shown to be very active. |

I don't know how they measure speed to display on the speedometers. However, upon getting new tyres and a wheel alignment, the fuel efficiency improved remarkably. And I was shown to have my speedometer nearly match the speed display sign I drove passed in Parkhurst fairly recently. Why would there be a differential of 5kmh between my speedometer and what is displayed on the speed detector sign, but be about 2kmh different after the wheel alignment? And why would my fuel consumption improve considerably, even though I do the same amount of driving? I would fuel up every week, about 2 months ago. Now, it is once every 10 days. |

I used to SNAKE cars for dealerships, when driving them for dealership needs like between dealerships in rural area, getting trays put on, etc.
But in time, vehicles became more electronically complex and effective snaking was hard or compromised power after 40 mins of driving. In truth, customers don't care if it is Snaked. As long as the kilometres are low on the meter. Its the used cars, that are rigged back 100,000 kms, that they do care. That's not a metre taken, that's a mile. |

I put new Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tyres on my car the shop asked me if i wanted a wheel alignment like Maccas ask if you want fries with that. My car tracks straight ahead if i take hands off wheel it doesn't pull left or right so it didn't need toe in or out adjustmenton front wheels. Tyre wear was even inside and out so didn't need camber adjustment. The car turns in wheel self centres coming out of corners co castor didn't need looking at. My car didn't need a wheel alignment they tried to sell me one. New tyres might explain some speed reading difference it could also be the roadside thing might not be calibrated. How often do you check tyre pressures answer this question honestly and tell us what pressure you run front and back? We have just come out of winter pressure volume and temperature are related since tyre volume doen't change pressure does change with temps in winter pressure will drop with colder weather. My bet is like most people you don't check pressure unless tyre looks flat you have no idea of what pressure works best. This does make a difference with rolling circumference which can impact speed readings. You also mentioned new tyres if you add 5mm top and 5mm bottom which gives you 10mm difference in diameter which will also impact speed reading. A wheel alignment and new tyres isn't going to give you 25% better fuel economy even if car is pulling hard left or right and has half flat tyres What is year make and model of your car? manual or auto? |

I have just drove back from Gladstone tonight. The fuel efficiency was quite good. I drive a small car, and the year of model is 2009. I won't tell you what type or make the car it is, given that it will give away my identity. I drove to Gladstone two years ago on tyres that were not suitable for the car. I could imagine that I was driving on tyres that were not aligned or suitable for the car. Can you imagine doing a car trip on steel tyres instead of reinforced aluminium? |
