Title: Cats as spiritual protectors.
Post by Sophia on Sep 18th, 2026 at 12:14am
We had a cat, she lived for 18 years.
I miss her.
Now we have a cat that visits. It comes right up to the glass sliding door checking on me.
I put a bowl of water outside. Can’t get close to this cat, but it comes close to house when it knows I’m quietly inside. I feel a little blessed.

This vid captures what cats do when it’s quiet and everyone sleeping.

Often I wondered what our pets see…as they react a little while looking at “something”.
The dog, before he was put down, he reacted to “someone” as if he was responding to someone taking to him….and rolled over to have his belly tickled.
I felt it was my mother in law….because she had dogs she loved with her all the time on the farm.
I said to husband as it just captured our attention …”it was your mum getting ready to greet the dog in spirit”

It’s sadly beautiful in its own way, but I still miss them physically so much :'(

And, the Beaglier in our life now is amazing.
When daughter and her dog come over to stay, in the morning the dog likes to check I’m okay when I’m asleep.
He puts his nose right up to my face, then wakes me up by doing belly slides on me  ;D
But one morning recently was odd… he was trying to wake me by putting his weight on his front paws and it looked like he was doing CPR.
I do have sleep apnea/stop breathing and maybe he thought I needed it!
I said to the daughter, did you see that?
Wow. Looks like according to this beloved dog, I’m not allowed to sleep in or die in my sleep  ;D

I've been watching a show on HBO called "My Cat From Hell" in which a cat whisperer goes to people's houses that have extreme problems with their cats.

He's a miracle worker ... but that's not my point. He has other segments in his show like "My Cat From Heaven" in which he showcases an extraordinarily lovely cats but the segment that blew my mind, and i think you will love Sophia, is where he showed us into a prison program.

In this incentive, cats and dogs were adopted by a prison from a 98% kill shelter and slowly integrated to trusted inmates. There were cat cells in which prisoners lived with their cat; there were dedicated play zones ... there was even a lab where cats poo was ested to make sure they were all healthy.

In fact, all of the cats i saw looked delightfully well fed; treats flying everywhere.

They also adopted out cats that would have been killed o the public.

But what was most beautiful amidst all of these beautiful things was the effect on the men. Interview after interview, these were men who had been hurt tremendously in their lives who were being healed by wee, fat little woozles.

Just win/win.

I know some people who are imprisoned are not suitable for such a program but i reckon it would be a minority.

If we let them, animals heal us.

If you're interested, the host of that show is prolific on youtube. Here's a starting point:

I never knew they had cats that would help prisoners. That’s lovely!
And as you wrote, healing.
Tonight when I’m in bed, I put earphones on and will watch the vids you’ve put up.

There’s so many special stories I (and others) could share.

When I was very little I had a dog and cat that followed me everywhere. They were my companions. I lived in an isolated country area with no nearby neighbourhood kids, but I wouldn’t know as I had my “buddies”  :)
To this day I’m never alone. Birds chirping, ducks walking past, kangaroos in the paddocks, cockatoos squawking like crazy, kookaburras laughing, ringtail possums ruining my lemons  ;D and rabbits running around galore! That sticky nose visiting black cat with the white chinny chin. And an echidna burrowing in the dirt… they are the cutest!
And horses nearby too in neighbours property.

Cats are natural predators.
Instinct driven.
In the news tonight there was a new cat species identified!

Scientists have discovered and named a new wild cat species in Bolivia called the tilcayo (Leopardus tilcayo), marking the first new living cat species described in over a century
