Bucket and Mug: Many homes and budget hotels use a large plastic bucket (balti) and a small pitcher (mug) instead of a shower.

India takes cultural pride in their filth like some holy dedication.

There is a legend that in time of Chingis Khan Mongols did not bath at all and no blade or arrow point could penetrate accumulated layers of dirt and that's why they were invincible in battle.

Perhaps in India, they stink to high heaven. I doubt the chart is accurate. Americans have a thing about showering often. To think of them having less than a shower per day is ludicrous. I have stayed on a property out in rural Qld (near Kin Kin). The family there did not have showers unless it is raining. They had to rely on tank water. And even when it rained, they would go outside with a bar of soap and scrub themselves over in the rain. I was told off for having a 5 minute shower or flushing the toilet.

I am so accustomed to showering that I cannot go a day without a shower too often (unless it is winter). Speaking of which, I have not showered in 36 hours. But at least it is better than some people who never showered. A representative for local council (name withheld) was once a long-haired scruffy university student. He reeked to high hell of body odour, and claimed to never shower for some reason. Twenty years later, he was unrecognisable as a politician. I don't know how he could live with himself as a 20-something year old. Even the local FunZone employee banned him from laser tag until his hygiene improved.

Back to the Indians. The ones I worked with seemed to have overdone their bathing. One guy actually oversprayed himself with body deodorant. It was an eye-watering amount of deodorant. I suppose when you are housed in places that has showering facilities, the concept of bathing is a luxury.

If you did a viewing of the SASR in Vietnam, they were known for not showering in the days before they would go out on patrol. They would stop using soap and deodorant. They did not brush their teeth. They would drink tea instead of coffee. And they would not smoke. On their patrols, they would be undetectable.

By comparison, the Vietnamese said that they could smell the American patrols a mile away -- bit of an exaggeration. The smell of cigarette smoke, the deodorant, the lingering soap, the urinations that smelled of coffee that they had drunk that morning. The Americans were so easy to find, it is not surprising that the United States suffered heavy casualties.

Indians bathe in raw sewerage, that's why they smell so nice.

Way back in the 1950s the Australian army did a test programme on bathing versus no washing in hot desert country, those that did not wash or shave smelled but then the smell tapered off over a week and the count of infectious whatnots on their bodies dropped dramatically to just below those on the bodies of those who enjoyed the luxury of the mobile hot showers.

Last year, I went 5 days without a shower. I only showered because I was going out shopping. My body odour was so repulsive. But the 10-minute shower was so good that I did not want to leave.

That close to the sun the sunburn is a real worry.

Fully covered, Buddhist scarf over lower face and eye mask (uv/polarised) over eyes.
Was lucky in that my entire 3 months was pristine sunny weather, 🌞 but in the very high altitudes, very cold.
Nothing warmer than taking a dump surrounded and packed in tight by yaks though. :)

I suppose after a decent breakfast meal, I have to use the facilities for a number 2. And then it is a morning shower to make sure that my underwear I change into does not get stained for the day.

When Indian or Pakistani people make their presence in Australia, they have a tendency to take advantage of the shower facilities. A former co-worker of mine decided that using body deodorant is to be used generously, in order to be presentable around Rockhamptonites.

It gets to 5°C some nights during the winter here. I go out and work in the cold weather. Once I get home, I cool off in no time flat. The hour before bed, I would get into the hot shower and let my muscles relax. Getting out of the shower, it would be a choice between going to bed and sleeping like a baby. Or I would sit in front of the television until a point where I fall asleep on the lounge.

At -40°C, I cannot believe anyone would want to have a shower/bath no matter how much they need it. You would take off your clothes, freeze your arse off, and then wait 5 minutes for the water to be hot enough to bathe. Then you get out, get dressed very quickly, and spend the rest of the day trying to keep warm. I speak as a Central Queenslander who does not know what freezing temperatures are like to have a shower in a shut up home. Heaters and blankets would be a must.
