Title: Trump is also a marine engineer and architect Post by Armchair_Politician on Aug 16th, 2026 at 2:09pm
The U.S. Navy is considering a major redesign of its new Ford-class aircraft carriers to better match President Trump’s preferred aesthetic for the warships, according to seven current and former U.S. officials familiar with the matter who spoke to the Washington Post.
The President has expressed concerns over the location of the “island” on the Ford-class of carriers, which operates as the ship’s bridge as well as an air traffic control tower and is located more towards the rear of the vessel, with Trump preferring the multistory tower be moved to the middle of the flight deck, like on aircraft carriers seen during World War ll. Moving that command center would be the second major design change prompted by President Trump, who on Thursday issued a national security memorandum directing the Navy to develop a plan to revert to older steam-powered catapults on future aircraft carriers, scrapping the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) currently employed on the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78). |

He wants to go back to the steam-powered catapults because he thinks that magnets don't work when they get wet. True story. Has there ever been anyone as stupid as Trump? |

He clearly still thinks he knows better than everyone, even people with actual qualifications and lifelong experience doing their jobs. Trump is a cheat and a grifter who doesn’t know the meaning of the words “hard work”. The sooner he’s gone, the better off everyone will be. |

It had to happen, Armchair. Magnets don't work underwater. What's worse is the electricals. You'd be on the boat about to get electrocuted and you'd see a school of sharks - what to do? I don't know about you, but I'd probably go with electrocution. But why does it have to be this way? Why can't they design better boats? DL's taken care of that. Top-rating TV star, winning businessman, marvellous negotiator, fab prez and now this, marine engineer. We will make America great again, no? |

You’ve really got to wonder what precipitated Trump inserting himself into the whole catapult thing in the first place. He knows nothing whatsoever about ships or catapult systems and it shows. He should stick to insider trading, corruption and election denial and leave the shipbuilding to the experts, of which he is most definitely not one.

This is what I keep on telling you rooters. Learn to defend yourselves and do it quick. Trump is nutty enough to declare war on YOU if Netanyahu sees you as a threat.

Donald understands the craving of the masses for novelty .
He never ceases to surprise. Though he is many things, he is never boring. A lesson for failures like starmer in the UK. The public see a boring leader as a LOSER Great to see our resident lefties applauding the genius of the Trump persona |

'Attendees frequently leave Donald Trump’s rallies before they conclude, a phenomenon documented by journalists and highlighted in political debates. While Trump frequently asserts that "nobody leaves" his events early, video footage and on-the-ground reporting regularly capture streams of people heading for the exits during the middle of his remarks.' |

Just so. I'm sure the admirals love having DL redesign their boats. The navy has always thrived on novelty, no? https://youtu.be/Kfao1s3Tiek?si=41x7OuACeLb6rfzT |

I am not overly concerned that Trump is none of these things he claims. But it is a shame that he could never be a president. |

Trump could not swim even with floaties. And he could not build a model house out of a Lego playset.

Reducing magnetic signature is done not for mines and missiles only. Strong magnetic fields also induce electric currents, statics and sparks starting fires. |

I am a Naval architect and engineer, not as much money in NA which i why i went for engineering. Navy ships are all built to exceed Lloyds,Veritas,ABS and ISO standards none of these groups have any specs for EMAL. US navy carriers are required to meet 4200 launches between failure steam does this EMAL fails between 400-600 launches. Consequences of failure is a term every engineer is familiar with. There are 4 catapults on carriers. If one steam catapult fails it's close off valves repair pipe or seals the other 3 catapults are still operational it's a low tech repair the ships are equipped to do it relatively unskilled work. Flight launches are reduced by 25% with one catapult offline If one EMAL fails it the other 3 are shut down. It cannot be repaired while other catapults are operating due to immense voltage and electromagnetc fields. It's a highly specialised repair unlikely to have spare parts on board to fix it. A single electrical fault can knock out all catapults which is far more complicated than fixing a mechanical steam valve. This results in all flight operations halted just to fix one catapult. EMAL is not even close to Navy requirements for 4200 launches between failure when it does fail no planes are launched. Steam launches planes every 30 seconds it's cheap reliable easy to fix. These ships have to be self sufficient for repairs. Back to the regular idiocy from those with TDS ;) |
