Should he replace Starmer, I fear I will look at Britain’s first openly LGBTQ+ Prime Minister with the same disappointment with which I have viewed every Prime Minister since Gordon Brown.

It will not be a landmark moment.

It will feel like the end of the hope that one day a Prime Minister might embody our community, not betray it.

At least, until Zack Polanski walks through the door of Number 10.

Two days after the Epstein files were released, there came the latest development in what the Metropolitan Police have called a "conspiracy" to firebomb the British Prime Minister's various properties and motor vehicles in north London. It is an unusual "conspiracy" in that, per Scotland Yard's theory of the case, it appears to have been dreamed up by fetching young Slav twinks who are reported to be "aspiring models", in the way that young black men who meet untimely ends in the United States are all said to be "aspiring rappers".

Speaking of ends, timely or otherwise, what do male models do while they're still in the "aspiring" phase? If you've ever met an "aspiring model", you might share my scepticism that these are the lads to whom one would entrust a "conspiracy" to target a G7 head of government. Three of the "men" were born in Ukraine - Petro Pochynok, 35; Stanislav Carpiuc, 27; and Roman Lavrynovych, 21. To date, the fourth's origins have not been disclosed - Israeli? Russian? Uighur? Minnesota Somali? In one of his rare statements on his rare propensity to attract incendiary Ukrainian male models, Sir Keir told the Commons that the firebombings of his many homes represent "an attack on all of us, on democracy and the values that we stand for". So he's bravely taking Roman's candle so that you don't have to.

At any rate, on Sunday the fifth twink dropped. He is reported to be nineteen. Which means he would have been eighteen at the time of the Starmer firebombings last May. Which means he would have been seventeen at the time Sir Keir last lived at the targeted properties.

He later did stints at PricewaterhouseCoopers and a Labour think-tank, no doubt guzzling down more crank woke Kool-Aid as he went.

Streeting the Downing Street dreamer was made not by the working class but by the institutions of the anti-working class. In the rarefied charity sector with its post-truth, anti-woman bollocks, and among student agitators who break out in hives at the sight of a Brexit voter, and in the plush offices of snotty think-tanks that examine the masses rather than talking to them. He is the star protégé of the wankerati. Entirely unsurprisingly his views are of a piece with this moral regime he ingratiated himself with. He hated Brexit and said Starmer should have taken more action to ‘undo’ it. He warned the little people not to use inflammatory language about the rape gangs. And in his resignation letter today, he laments the ‘dangerous English nationalism’ of Reform UK that poses such a threat to our ‘values and ideals’.

‘Dangerous’ — he’s talking about the working classes, isn’t he? He’s talking about hoi polloi. He’s talking about the pissed-off of Wales and the north of England who last week initiated the latest stage of their populist revolt by voting for Reform. It is breathtaking how clueless Labour is. They really are content to wallow in the self-flattering and bigoted delusion that the working classes have only temporarily been enticed away by the demagogic trickery of Nigel Farage and will be back in Labour’s arms soon enough when a ‘fresh face’ is in charge. You fools. You are finished. Neither the turncoat from Stepney nor that ‘King of the North’ Andy Burnham will save Labour from what is coming – the democratic fury of the people they have betrayed and demeaned for far too long.

Apparently, he did it at 18 to reclaim his Jewish heritage, his grandparents having anglicised it to avoid anti-Semitism, and chose ‘Zack’ as he didn’t get along with his stepfather, also a David. Then came what we may think of as his ‘Hypno-Tits’ years, the apex of which saw him getting pranked by a Sun journalist who asked him what the chances were of her being inflated to Page 3 dimensions. It’s funny that acting and lying were Polanski’s passions before he went into politics, as to most of the jaded electorate, this is exactly what our Honourable Members do.

Every party can be said to have different factions, but none as contradictory as the middle-class anything-goes brigade on one wing of the Greens and the extremely reactionary Muslim wing on the other. We all know the one issue that unites them.

Polanski can change his name all he wants – but the whiff of the snake-oil salesman will always be strong with this one.
