Having worked in security worst case is public settings like that hotel where anyone can come in and setup above or around  you.

Security at Trumps new ballroom would be excellent it's on white house premises which already has good security they can control everyone who comes in.
There would be no spaces for anyone to hide it could even have secret passages to escape.
They could make it blast resistant for bombs and drones bullet proof glass even have observation posts for security.

Far easier to make it secure for heads of state visits and functions over a hotel that still lets others in.

Secret service would have 100% control of everyone entering ballroom with multiple layers of defence to stop unauthorised people.

If the object of a thing is, as they say, its outcome, then the object of the United States Secret Service these last two years is to enable the increasing number of Trump-deranged persons to take a potshot at him. What is far more likely is a conspiracy to passively allow would-be assassins to proceed with their plan, at least right up to the penultimate moment...

The latest would-be assassin, himself, noted that security appeared light, almost breezy, which does have shades of Kennedy's Secret Service agents' attitude on that day.

This would-be assassin appears to have left a trail a mile wide about his intentions, apparently plastered it all over social media, and checked into the hotel...
